Hours: Part Time, 20 hours per week –  Monday to Friday


Holidays: Annual Leave 25 days plus bank holidays

We now have a fantastic opportunity for an energetic and motivated Facilities Operative to join our close-knit team at Belmont School in Rossendale, Lancashire.

Belmont is an independent specialist day school for boys 11 to 16, catering for children with a wide range of needs. Our dedicated team work together to ensure successful outcomes for pupils who often arrive at the school with a troubled view of education and life.

About the Role

The Head Teacher is seeking to appoint an aspiring and experienced Facilities Operative to join this thriving specialist SEMH School. Responsible to the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Operative will be responsible for the fabrics and grounds of the school. You will be an enthusiastic, flexible and hand on individual who shares our values and is work proud.


Who we are looking for

Whilst an interest and knowledge of Special Educational Needs or a school setting is desirable, it is essential you have experience in facilities management or a related field.  You must be able to work as part of a team but also using your own initiative.

Training and development will be provided for the successful candidate in line with the identified needs of the school, the skills of the individual and their prospective career progression.


Key Accountabilities:

Work closely with the Facilities Manager / Head Teacher

Carry our security procedures for the school buildings and grounds

Carry out general maintenance both on the grounds and internally

Do regular water and heating checks

Carry out manual handling duties and furniture moving

Deal with any emergencies – spillages, breakages, making safe any gas or electrical issues

Assist with fleet management

Ensure all paperwork is completed and recorded in full ensuring the school is compliant


Essential Criteria

  • Will have experience of facilities management or a related field
  • Lives within 30 minutes of the school and will respond to emergency call outs
  • Can work as part of a team but also using your own initiative with little supervision
  • Flexible, can-do, positive attitude
  • Basic knowledge in plumbing, electrics, joinery etc.
  • Full and clean driving licence 
  • Working knowledge of Health and Safety legislation
  • Partake in essential training and courses specific to this role and working environment
