Our opportunity:
We have a fantastic opportunity for an energetic and motivated caretaker to join our premises team to help us ensure that our Academy provides a safe, welcoming and purposeful environment for children, staff and visitors. Yewlands Academy is looking for a practical and well-motivated person for the post of Caretaker to join our team of committed staff. We are very proud of our building so we especially want someone who will really care for our Academy, ensuring it looks its best, is safe and exemplifies the high expectations we have of our students. The role will include a wide range of responsibilities and duties connected with the fabric of the building, health and safety, grounds and facilities maintenance and security.
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, keen to work in partnership with the staff at Yewlands Academy and able to work under instruction as well as having the ability to use their initiative. They should have the ability to provide a service to the site and an efficient support service to the site users and community groups. The post involves a rotating shift pattern and weekend working may be required occasionally. Good literacy and numeracy skills are essential.
We are looking for a caretaker who is:
• passionate and motivated to provide the best site for our students
• innovative and ready to support a site that is well-kept and organised
• a hands-on individual who can develop and implement systems/procedures as well as maintain current ones
• able to contribute to projects and maintenance schedules
• practical, with good DIY skills

Ofsted (Autumn 2024)
- Since the previous inspection, the school has made significant improvements. The school’s work has resulted in improvements to outcomes over time.
- The school, working with the trust, has designed an ambitious curriculum that clearly sets out what pupils should learn. It has thought carefully about the order pupils need to develop their knowledge.
- The school identifies and supports those pupils who are in the early stages of learning to read. The school gives these pupils additional help, which enables some to catch up quickly.
- Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are identified effectively by the school. The school works with external agencies, such as educational psychologists, to access additional help for these pupils.
- Pupils benefit from the school’s effective work to promote their personal development.
- Those responsible for leadership at Yewlands Academy know their school well. The school has been on a considerable journey of change over the last few years, leading to an improved experience for pupils in all aspects of school life.
