Job overview

Benenden School is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Carpenter to join our busy Estates Department on a fixed-term basis.

Reporting to the Construction Projects Manager, you will undertake various carpentry projects and general maintenance duties, contributing to the ongoing care and improvement of our facilities. This will involve repairing, installing and maintaining frameworks, furniture, flooring and staircases, as well as constructing dry walls, studwork and roofs. You will work in a professional and flexible manner to complete all types of carpentry activities both internally and externally, meeting the needs and expectations of our customers.

We are looking for someone with a positive, can-do attitude who works well as part of a team and independently. You will need an NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds Advanced qualification in Carpentry (or equivalent), along with previous experience gained in construction, maintenance or a similar field. Strong interpersonal skills and a good command of the English language is essential, along with strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records to ensure compliance in all areas. Basic IT skills in order to use the maintenance helpdesk and email system is also essential.

We offer a competitive salary of £35,712.78 per annum, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The role is 40 hours per week, 8am – 5pm Monday to Friday, all year round, but some flexibility is required including occasional weekends and evenings if there is an emergency or a pre-planned event.

Benenden School is an independent day and boarding school for girls, founded in 1923 and situated in 250 acres of beautiful parkland in rural Kent. At present, there are 550 girls in the school. A considerable amount of new building has been completed in recent years, including an all-weather pitch, staff housing and a new School Hall and Music School.
