Gateshead College are expanding the range of courses delivered as part of the ESF Go Grow Community Academy and are looking to recruit an experienced genealogist for its Family History programme. The focus of the role is to deliver daytime and evening Family History classes both in the community as well as on College sites.

Although no formal genealogy qualifications are necessary, knowledge and experience of this topic, social and local history and/or paleography are important. Involvement with historical research, librarianship, archive administration would be an advantage, along with continued development of genealogy through professional membership or course and seminar attendance.

Knowledge of how to locate and utilise local and social history sources, both original and digital as well as the ability to communicate in different forms to learners of all ages throughout a weekly Family History programme is essential. A methodical approach to research activity is needed, paying meticulous attention to detail.

A teaching qualification would be an advantage.
