Job overview

We are looking to recruit a Catch-up coach who will help students catch up with their vocational ICT studies as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. This role will be based at the Joseph Wright centre in the city centre. Coaching/catch up sessions will be between an hour to 90 minutes in duration and will be on a regular basis each week for targeted students. ‘Catch up’ coaches will be supported by the relevant Team Manager who will ensure teachers provide set work tasks and activities to them to help stimulate and accelerate student focus and progress. 

Role Responsibilities:

  • Coaching/delivering subject content and providing practical and theoretical skill support to small groups of students aged 16 to 19 in their subject studies
  • You will support students to complete their studies across the ICT department
  • You will also help manage students to complete assignments and assist in revision for exams in liaison with the vocational staff for this area
  • Delivering both 1:1 and small group sessions to a high standard
  • Contributing to team meetings with relevant teachers and team Managers on the progress of targeted students and impact of the coaching and support

Essential Knowledge/Qualifications:

  • Competency with Microsoft systems
  • Experience of Administration procedures and systems
  • Level 2 English
  • Level 2 Maths
  • Level 3 qualification or above in subject specialism

Derby College is a large general further education college with four sites in or near the city of Derby. It supports around 26,000 learners, who choose from more than 1,000 full-time and part-time apprenticeship, A-level, BTEC and NVQ courses.   

Derby College was established as a single institution in 2002 by merging three further education colleges: Mackworth Tertiary College, Wilmorton Tertiary College and Broomfield Agricultural College. A merger between South East Derbyshire College and Derby College was approved in 2010. Heavy investment has been made by the college in its teaching and learning facilities, from the fully equipped teaching kitchens at the Roundhouse campus to the high-tech science labs at the Joseph Wright Centre and the Equestrian Centre at the Broomfield Hall campus.
