Job overview

We are looking to appoint an experienced and committed individual to lead and inspire our team of Head Chef and six Catering Assistants to prepare breakfast and lunch for students and staff in our state of the art kitchen. Our Catering Manager also line manages Midday Supervisors to ensure our real passion for food and excellent customer service is on display throughout the whole environment.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a dynamic colleague to join our vibrant and successful school. The details of the post are:

  • Contract status: Permanent
  • Weeks per year: 40 weeks (39 weeks Term Time + 1 week in school holidays)
  • Days per week: 5 days per week, Monday to Friday
  • Hours per week: 37.5 hours
  • Shift: 8am to 4pm, with a 30 minute unpaid break
  • Grade: PO2, Spine Point 30-33
  • Salary: £40,764 to £43,978 a year
  • Start date: ASAP


The core purpose of the role is to deliver a comprehensive, professional dining service to our school. We are a large secondary school and Sixth Form, catering to more than 1,300 students and 200 staff members. We also hold some bespoke functions, such as Open and Parent Consultation Evenings, as well as Sports Day and a Summer BBQ.

We need you to be:   

  • enthusiastic and committed to embracing every opportunity to contribute to our whole school development.
  • the driving force championing issues such as healthy eating and sustainable diets whilst creating a welcoming dining experience
  • keen to act as an example to the catering wider team, including possessing high standards of personal and professional hygiene
  • in possession of good delegation and influencing skills, as well as being financially and commercially astute
  • qualified to Level 3 in Supervising Food Safety and Hygiene, or equivalent

Hampstead School is Camden’s largest maintained comprehensive School, educating 1330 students (including 300 in our stand-alone Sixth Form).
