The CCF Contingent Commander will have overall responsibility for all aspects of the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) at the Stamford Schools. This role is part time (22.5 hours) and suitable for an appropriate professional who has a strong background in the forces.

The CCF today still constitutes 3 services, with roughly 250 cadets. Training takes place during term time on a Friday evening and is held at our St Paul's site, where the CCF is able to make use of school’s large area of playing fields and a small amount of ‘rough’ ground, to facilitate field-training. There are also two large tarmacked areas which can be used for drill. The CCF makes use of the school’s classrooms, almost all of which are fitted with projectors and speakers systems, to help enrich lessons.

Position: CCF Contingent Commander

Key Responsibilities:

  • To be responsible for making the CCF at SES as exciting and rewarding an experience for the cadets involved with it as possible.
  • To have overall responsibility for the recruitment and retention of cadets into all 3 services.
  • To line manage the School Staff Instructor (SSI) and to recommend appointments as SSI and contingent officers to the Principal to fill established posts.
  • To ensure the necessary arrangements exist for all exercises, camps and training days and to oversee the arrangement of transport and catering as necessary.
  • To oversee Health and Safety of all CCF activities including Risk Assessments, testing of staff in accordance with MOD policy, ensuring qualifications held are in date and current.
  • To be responsible for all CCF ceremonial commitments for the School.
  • To represent SES at the appropriate MOD and related committee meetings, and keep the Principal informed of developments within the CCF.

Requirements:

  • A strong background in the forces and cadet forces.
  • Previous line management or supervisory experience.
  • Previous experience of budgeting and reporting.
  • Relevant experience working with the CCF.
  • Previous experience in recruitment and retention of cadets.

The Stamford Schools have been educating students since 1532. Our Schools have a long and prestigious heritage, but everything we do at Stamford is focused on preparing young people to lead happy and fulfilling lives in the 21st century. At the start of the academic year 2023-2024 Stamford Schools opened its doors for the first time to teach students co-educationally at all stages as Stamford High School and Stamford School merged.

Stamford strives to offer an outstanding, contemporary education in which students develop the ability to think for themselves and to interpret the world around them. Every child at Stamford is encouraged to be an independent thinker and take the lead in their own education. Our students leave us with a flexible, adaptable mindset and an approach to learning that equips them to face the challenges and opportunities of their future.

Stamford is a dynamic, vibrant, modern, and exciting school, built on the strengths of five centuries of learning, with a resolute focus on preparing our students for 2030 and beyond. Our students leave Stamford as rounded and grounded young people, ready for life beyond education. At the heart of our all our schools is the focus on academic ambition, pastoral excellence, and the opportunity for students to become the very best version of themselves.
