Job overview

Full Time, Term Time Only (some flexibility may be available)

Required from January 2024

An exciting opportunity has arisen to support and minister to the community of James Allen’s Girls’ School, the oldest independent girls’ school in London and a modern community providing forward-thinking education for over 1000 girls aged 4 to 18. JAGS sits within the Dulwich Foundation of schools – alongside Dulwich College and Alleyn’s School – and bases its services at Christ’s Chapel, Dulwich, and a local parish.

The Chaplain at JAGS is responsible for the spiritual life of the school. He or she affirms and supports the different faith communities which make up our diverse and dynamic school community by promoting students’ spiritual development, their growing sense of self, their unique potential, and their exploration of life’s fundamental questions. The Chaplain is actively involved in assembly planning and delivery, and is a very visible presence in school, supporting students, staff and leaders alike, being there for all members of the community and supporting wider co-curricular work as appropriate. There is scope for teaching on a much-reduced timetable as well as leading and supporting the school’s outreach and partnership initiatives.

This post presents an exciting opportunity to work within a school committed to equity, diversity and inclusion, working closely with the Deputy Head People to deliver the school’s strategic plan to nurture self-assured, socially-aware, considerate individuals who seek to champion liberal values today and in the future.

This role is offered as a full-time, term time only position, however some flexibility in these conditions may be considered for the preferred candidate. As such, we will consider candidates looking for a significant part-time role rather than full-time, or year-round working rather than term-time only.

We offer:

  • The opportunity to join our outstanding school where public examination results consistently place JAGS amongst the leading schools in the UK
  • A community of considerate, creative and compassionate students and staff
  • A highly diverse and inclusive school community, committed to our bursary provision
