Winchester College seeks to appoint an Anglican priest as Chaplain. This is a new post. The appointment will be made without regard to age, gender or academic subject, and the precise role and responsibilities will be tailored to the strengths of the candidate who offers the most substantial overall contribution to the life of the school. The chaplain will be required to teach a limited timetable of their own academic subject, and to play a full part in the school’s communal, pastoral, liturgical and spiritual life.

Winchester is a boys boarding school of 700 pupils. It was founded by William of Wykeham in 1382 and is one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious schools. Chapel and religious observance have from the first been central to the college community, as has a strong choral tradition.

Applications should be made via the school website, no later than 1 March 2018. Early applications are encouraged, and further preliminary enquiries welcome. These can be directed to the Headmaster, the Second Master Mr Nicholas Wilks, the Dean of Chapel, and the Senior Lay Chaplain, and also to the school’s HR Director. The school envisages a long list, with each candidate placed on it invited for a personal visit and discussion.

Winchester College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children:  the appointment will be dependent on successful pre-employment and DBS checks, and will attract a generous benefits package including appropriate housing.
