Job overview

The Pointer School is an Independent Christian Prep and pre-Prep school in Blackheath, Southeast London. We are seeking a hardworking and dedicated Chef to join our dynamic catering team. A chef is responsible for:

  • Assisting the head chef in preparing and cooking daily menus as per the specification of the executive chef
  • Maintain a close working relationship with the Executive Chef and Head Chef
  • Maintaining a high level of for food hygiene and health and safety within the kitchen, observing high cleanliness rules, practices and routines to avoid accidents, food spoilage or waste.
  • Show a real passion fresh, locally sourced foods
  • To understand and monitor food allergies, dietary requirements and preferences for staff and pupils in conjunction with the EC
  • Support and inspire other kitchen staff, particularly in the absence of the Head Chef
  • Attend and/or prepare for school functions that require catering services such as, e.g. Open days, Open mornings, Sports Day and days etc.


Carry out any other duties as may be reasonably required by the Head, Business Manager or Executive Chef. Working hours are 07:00am – 3:00pm Monday to Friday and is term-time only (18 weeks holiday per year). The position will commence in September 2023.

Salary: £20-23k, depending upon experience.

All new staff will be subject to enhanced DBS clearance, identity checks, qualification checks and employment checks to include an exploration of any gaps within employment, two satisfactory references and registration with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
