Job overview

We are seeking an inspiring Chef Manager to lead and manage our Chef and Catering Team of eleven colleagues across two school kitchens, which are housed in two separate blocks. You will also work closely with the Catering Procurement and Compliance Manager. You will develop all aspects of our school catering provision, delivering high-quality, nutritious meals for around 1,400 pupils and staff while ensuring excellent standards of food safety, hygiene, compliance, financial control, and team leadership.

We operate a cashless catering system; therefore, the successful applicant will be required to have some IT experience.

Responsibilities will include stock control, financial management, training, staff management and cooking.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a minimum of 4 years’ experience in the catering industry with leadership experience within a catering or hospitality setting.

  • Have NVQ Level 3 in Catering or City & Guilds 706/2 and Level 3 Award in Food Safety in Catering.

  • Have experience of menu design, food costing and budgetary controls.

  • Have the ability to deliver a high standard of quality and service, including the ability to coordinate and deliver hospitality and event catering.

Working pattern: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7.00 am – 2.30 pm, including a 30-minute unpaid break. 39 weeks per year, to include 3 cleaning days.

St Mary’s Catholic High School is a mixed secondary academy in North Derbyshire. The school converted to a Catholic voluntary-aided academy in the summer of 2012. St Mary’s is located north of Chesterfield, with places for 1,300 students aged 11-18, of which 285 are in the sixth form. The school primarily serves North East Derbyshire, but some students travel from as far afield as Sheffield. 

St Mary’s Catholic High School is supported by the Catholic dioceses of Hallam and Nottingham, with additional governors appointed to represent parents, staff and the local authority.

There is exemplary behaviour around the school. Students are unfailingly courteous and polite to adults, and each other. Students say that bullying is not a concern and it is very rare for any disruption to occur in lessons. Students are kept very safe in the school and it is clear from their attitudes to school and their attendance that students are extremely proud to be a part of the community of St Mary’s Catholic High School.”
