Pay: Main pay scale

Grey Court is a vibrant, successful, and well-established school situated on an impressive site

close to the River Thames and Richmond Park. Rated outstanding in all areas, we continue with

our ambitious vision for both staff and students. Come and join us!

About the role

The Science Faculty currently offers a wide range of opportunities at Key Stage 3, 4 and 5. We

run both separate and combined science options at GCSE. Our results at GCSE level are

significantly and consistently above the national average. At KS5 we run a successful

chemistry course with results in the top 25% of the country. We have also introduced an

Applied Science course at KS5 with opportunities for teaching a more vocational style of

chemistry.

At Key Stage 5, the chemistry department has developed a strong relationship with Kingston

University allowing the students the opportunity to try NMR and Mass spectroscopy first

hand whilst synthesising compounds such as paracetamol. We also have an array of

extracurricular activities for all year groups and we are looking for a candidate who has the

initiative and motivation to get involved and even lead on such opportunities.

Chemistry, and Science in general, is a very popular and thriving subject at Grey Court School.

This vacancy provides an excellent opportunity to work within the well-resourced, state of

the art laboratories in a dynamic and highly successful school. With a relatively new 6th Form,

this is an exciting time to be part of the continuing development of strong Key Stage 5

teaching at Grey Court.

About you

We are seeking to appoint a highly qualified, motivated and innovative teacher of chemistry

who will inspire our young people. The post would be suitable for a newly qualified or

experienced teacher with good qualifications and a degree in chemistry (or a related field).

The successful candidate should set high standards of teaching and learning and have strong

skills in differentiating lessons for different abilities. The Science Faculty is a highly

collaborative department and would welcome an applicant with strong interpersonal and

communications skills.

professional training opportunities including masters qualifications, the outstanding teacher

programme and national leadership programmes. We also have a structured support

programme for early career teachers (ECTs).

Grey Court is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all

staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The school fully recognises its responsibilities

for safeguarding and child protection. All staff are required to undergo pre-employment

Teacher Training

Grey Court provides a comprehensive professional development programme for trainee, early career and established teachers. This is further enhanced through our membership of the Wandle Teaching School Hub; an alliance of schools in the London boroughs of Kingston, Merton, Richmond and Wandsworth, formed to provide ongoing development for teachers at every stage of their career.

Early Career Teachers

We work closely with the Institute of Education and the Wandle Teaching School Hub to provide a two year training programme for early career teachers (ECTs). This highly structured, in-house programme involves close mentoring, support and encouragement of new teachers, and exceeds the statutory standards of the DfE’s early career framework. Many of our ECTs go on to build successful careers at Grey Court.

Ongoing Teacher Training

We actively encourage staff to continue their professional development. This could be through courses provided by the Wandle Teaching School hub, through our in-house training and learning sessions, or through more formal routes such as the national professional qualifications.

Initial Teacher Training

As part of the Grey Court teaching alliance we co-ordinate placements for trainee teachers in schools across south west London and Surrey. Each year we work closely with universities and the Department for Education (DfE) to place post graduate (PGCE) and School Direct applicants either in our own, or in other local schools.

Training School

As a training school we value the continuous development of our staff and offer a full range of professional training opportunities including in-house and cross-MAT CPD and national leadership programmes.
