Job overview

The Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) is an independent charity dedicated to breaking the link between family income and educational achievement. Founded in 2011 by the Sutton Trust as lead charity in partnership with Impetus, EEF aims to raise the attainment of 3-18 year-olds, developing their essential skills and preparing them for the world of work and further study. Using new and existing evidence of ‘what works’, funding rigorous trials of promising but untested programmes and approaches, combined with practical tools for teachers, EEF supports schools to achieve maximum benefit for young people. With a spend of £15-£20m a year and 36 staff, EEF has developed its activities in recent years to meet the challenge of the changing education and research landscape, working in partnership with a wide range of organisations, and recently supporting a number of the Department for Education’s initiatives, including the pilot of the Early Careers Framework and the Strategic School Improvement Fund.

The Trustees of the charity are now seeking an exceptional Chief Executive to succeed Sir Kevan Collins after eight years of outstanding leadership. Building on a strong existing platform, the new Chief Executive will provide clear, strategic leadership in a changing external environment, ensuring EEF is positioned as a significant, expert voice integral to the national education debate and to the use of evidence by practitioners in and beyond schools.

The successful candidate will be familiar with the educational context in which EEF operates, combining a proven track record of successful strategic leadership with first class influencing and advocacy skills and the capacity to motivate and inspire a high performing team. S/he should possess the commercial acumen to cultivate sustainable new income streams, effectively balancing business imperatives with the organisation’s charitable purpose. An energetic and creative leader, the new Chief Executive will resonate strongly with the ethos and mission of EEF as an independent, non-political organisation determined to widen the direct impact of its work.

The EEF is committed to creating a diverse environment and ensuring that all qualified applicants receive equal consideration for employment.
