Summit Learning Trust

Appointment of a Chief Executive Officer

Summit Learning Trust is a dynamic, growing family of seven schools and a sixth form college transforming lives and educational outcomes for young people in Birmingham and Solihull. We celebrate the rich and diverse communities that make up our schools, college and SCITT, honouring our different backgrounds to create a safe and equal environment for all. We are fiercely ambitious for all our pupils and challenge them to be the best that they can be at all times. Equality and the celebration of diversity is central to all that we do for everyone in Summit and beyond. We plan to grow the reach and the reputation of the Trust, locally and nationally, in a wise and sensible manner and we aim to attract, recruit and retain the best possible staff so that all Summit academies become the places of first choice for all stakeholders.

We seek an outstanding Chief Executive Officer to drive our vision for securing the best possible outcomes for all learners in a safe and inspiring setting. Our next leader will embrace our values of strength through diversity, ambition through challenge and excellence through curiosity. The successful candidate will achieve outstanding results through and with people by creating spaces for others to operate with autonomy while leading effectively.

We seek candidates with proven records of success in people and strategic leadership gained as a School Trust CEO, Deputy CEO or Education Director. We will also consider candidates offering commercial experience as a CEO where they have a high level of knowledge of the academy sector gained through School Trust governance or similar. Prior experience should include a record of taking an organisation to the next level of performance while fostering an ethos of continuous professional development and championing equality, diversity, and inclusion at all times. The successful candidate will also offer excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a record of innovation and creativity.

Completed applications should be uploaded at: https://candidates.perrettlaver.com/vacancies/ quoting reference number 5468.

The closing date for applications is 08:30 GMT on Thursday 2 December 2021.

Summit Learning Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and the Trust Board expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post.

Ninestiles School became an academy in 2011. Following this, Ninestiles Academy Trust was set up in 2012 and now has 7 schools and a 6th form college in its family. Ninestiles became a teaching school in the second cohort of teaching schools and is now widely known as Ninestiles Teaching School Alliance. Ninestiles has also had a centre for Initial Teacher Training since 2003, which is now South Birmingham SCITT. They have a passion for teaching and support and guide each trainee to their full potential, enabling them to securely enter the teaching profession in just one year.

A new Chief Executive, Catherine Anwar, joined the Trust in May 2017. Before joining the trust, Catherine was a Senior Her Majesty’s Inspector for Ofsted for four years and served eight years as a secondary school headteacher in Hampshire.

In our Trust, we celebrate the rich and diverse school communities that make up our schools. Sharing, listening to and respecting each other’s views and beliefs make our Trust stronger. We support each other, honouring our different backgrounds, to create a safe and equal environment for all.

We are fiercely ambitious for all our pupils and challenge them to do their best, every lesson, every day. We check their achievement and progress against the highest national standards. This ensures that we are always looking for ways to improve, and that we insist, relentlessly, on the highest standards of teaching and learning. Everyone in the Trust is continually challenged to improve on their previous best.

Curiosity is the engine of intellectual achievement. In our Trust, we encourage and provoke pupils’ curiosity so that they are inspired to seek out new knowledge, learn new skills and achieve excellence. Curiosity is closely linked to empathy, helping us all to develop better relationships. The life of a curious person is never boring!

The Trust Motto

Strength through Diversity

Ambition through Challenge

Excellence through Curiosity

The Trust changed its name to Summit Learning Trust in January 2019. The new name for the Trust symbolises our aspiration and ambition for all children and young people across our schools and college.
