Job overview

Our Trust has a clear purpose – to provide the best education and life chances for children and young people in our area.  Currently we educate some 5,500 young people in Walsall.  We serve some of the most socially deprived areas in the country.  In this context we work to equip every one of our students to realise their potential, thrive in work and contribute to their community.

Our schools have formed an educational community which offers a very broad range of provision.  Currently we have five schools for secondary aged students including selective schools, converter academies and a studio free school.  We formed a Multi-Academy Trust in January 2018, although had been working together for several years.  Diversity underpins our Trust whilst collaboration makes it work.  Together, we have the potential to shape the educational landscape in this area.

We have a planned growth programme which includes the expansion of the selective schools following two successful bids to the DfE and the opening of an Alternative Provision free school.   We are also at an advanced stage in bringing our first primary into our  family of schools.

We are looking for a Chief Executive who can lead us through the next stage of our development.  The successful candidate will be able to inspire confidence within the Trust and build a community outside of it.  There is plenty of scope for innovation and imagination as we look to serve a wide range of need with a unity of purpose where young people realise their potential regardless of background.

If you feel you have the skills and expertise to lead us to further success then do contact our advising consultants.  Further information can be found by clicking here .

For a confidential discussion please call our advising consultants Maureen Nicholas   (07540 222519) or Mike Phillips (07830 313915) at Pentir.

Closing date: Friday 1st February 2019.

It was in Mercia that St Chad established an association of small monasteries which fostered unity through bonds of kinship. We intend, a thousand years later, to adopt the same spirit in our approach to a Multi-Academy Trust. Pupils in the Mercian Trust will be part of a family of schools forming an educational community. We are convinced that we are stronger together. The Trust is already shaping the educational landscape in exciting ways and every pupil in the Trust will be part of that story.

The Mercian Trust brings together different schools catering for a wide range of individual needs into one Multi-Academy Trust in order to offer the broadest and best education to all pupils regardless of their socio-economic, cultural or ethnic background. Leveraging the strengths of the participating schools, Mercian Trust pupils will be able to access the advantages and opportunities that each school brings – in teaching, leadership, breadth of curriculum, facilities, enrichment activities and community engagement.

Our Mission: To provide the best education and life chances for the children and young people of Walsall.
