Job overview

‘If developing World Class Schools with Outstanding Leadership and Teaching is your Mission, then join us in our Challenge”

EMLC Academy Trust (EMLCAT) was incorporated in July 2012 to establish, maintain, manage and develop academies and free schools as world-class centres of excellence. Sponsored by EMLC, a charity which supports the development of outstanding education leadership and delivering commissioned school improvement services through its Third Wave Enterprises (TWE) partner, the Trust has a demonstrable expertise in improving teaching and leadership, and a capacity and capability for building schools for excellence.

The Trust currently sponsors five primary academies in Milton Keynes and Northampton, a secondary academy in Oundle and a new build, 2 to 19 all-through free school in Northampton, which is entering its second year of operation and will grow to 2,200 pupils. The Trust’s aim is to sponsor additional academies within this geographical cluster and develop other geographical clusters over the next three years.

To support its expansion, the Trust has reviewed its governance and senior leadership structures and is looking to appoint a Chief Executive.

Working in partnership with and reporting to the Chair of the Trust, the Chief Executive will assume overall responsibility for the Trust and will:

Create a new 3 year strategy, establishing and agreeing clear accountabilities within a relatively new team

Work with the Director of Education and school improvement partner to maintain the upward trajectory of performance in our academies

Act as Accounting Officer taking responsibility for the Trust’s finances and financial viability and resilience

Ensure that the current close partnerships within our academies continues

Set targets for growth and oversee the selection and assimilation of new schools into the Trust

With experience of operating at board level and reporting to board members, you have extensive leadership and managerial experience, having successfully delivered a range of projects, products or services against contractual requirements. You combine extensive knowledge and expertise in finance, project management, sales and marketing with an in depth knowledge of the education sector specifically in the area of school improvement. A highly skilled communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, you are able to build successful relationships, inspire, motivate and empower people to achieve their goals and network with a wide range of stakeholders.

Most importantly, you share the EMLC vision that every child has the right to outstanding teaching and leadership in order to become the best that they can be and you are impatient to play your part in developing and implementing our vision.

In return for your commitment, energy and enthusiasm, we offer the opportunity to lead and shape a dynamic new senior leadership team, work alongside acknowledged leadership and school improvement experts and further develop an organisation that is intent on making a real difference.
