Job overview

The London Borough of Barking & Dagenham’s reputation as a trail-blazer is well known and gaining further momentum, positioning the Borough for further growth and success. This means traditional Council services are being delivered differently so as to better meet the needs and expectations of the communities and residents we serve now.

Services to schools are poised to launch as a separate entity; a standalone Company with its own Board and a majority shareholding taken by the schools in the Borough. The rationale is confident, clear and straightforward; to develop the best schools-led system for the future. Raising educational attainment and achievement is critical to the future prosperity of the Borough and we are committed to providing all of our children and young people with every opportunity to learn and thrive within a great system.

The Chief Executive will lead the Company through its start-up and early development, ensuring we preserve and enhance the best elements of the existing service provision whilst developing our capability. This will involve both ensuring excellent levels of service buy-back within the Borough as well as growing beyond our existing boundaries. The CEO will need to foster that entrepreneurial spirit as the business grows as well as further developing and deepening relationships with schools within the Borough. Managing this successfully, and with our partners, will offer a fantastic challenge as the organisation grows.

Credibility with schools leadership is key, but so is the appetite and enthusiasm to grow and develop a business from already firm foundations. You will bring a balance of service leadership and commercial flair which you can deploy to good effect in one of London’s most dynamic boroughs.
