Child and Family Support Worker

Full Time (5 days a week)

Role commencing March 2020 until the end of the 2020 school year.

The role involves providing high quality clinical services in a school based setting.

St Mary’s Primary Bowraville recognises the importance of learning as a partnership across home and the parish school environments. This role will involve accompanying the children and families and the school to enable each child to experience the fullness of life.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Under the leadership of the Principal your duties include developing a culturally appropriate and evidence based plan with the family and school. You must have the skills to develop relationships with families throughout the process.
  • In promoting a strong school and family partnership for the outcome of ‘fullness of life’ for each young person at St Mary’s Bowraville the measured outcomes of success will include:
  • School-Family connections will be evident through the engaged conversations and gatherings for their child.
  • A student focused approach evidenced through the young person being successfully engaged in school learning and peer interactions.
  • Evidence of specific strategies being implemented in the classroom and playground.
  • Make recommendations in relation to students Personalised Plans and Personalised Learning Plans when required.
  • Model appropriate strategies for school staff in the classroom / playground.
  • To be responsible for their own Professional Development maintenance and updating knowledge and awareness through Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Selection Criteria

● Current registration with Psychology Board of Australia; or membership of Australian Association of Social Workers Association or membership of PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia)/ ACA (Australian Counselling Association). Applicants could also be a registered mental health nurse experience in working with school aged children.

● Have demonstrated understanding of the mental health needs of children and young people, particularly in the area of trauma.

● Experience in the provision of mental health care for school aged students, including the developing collaborative relationships with family, developing a treatment plan and education of school staff.

● Experience in the development and implementation of therapeutic group work; prevention and early intervention program; personal or social skills for students; parent education in evidence based practices

● Highly developed skills in community engagement with a focus on external community service providers. Providing explicit support to families in accessing external providers.

● Strong communication skills (verbal & nonverbal), interpersonal and organisational skills, confidentiality and an ability to work within a team based environment.

● Evidence of continued professional development.

● A current Working with Children check.

● Experience working in schools is highly regarded


Remuneration:

A teacher with psychology registration and 5 years full-time experience as a School Counsellor, can earn up to $118,018 (pro-rata).

An experienced psychologist or social worker/ counsellor can earn up to $109,427 (pro rata). Each employee's qualifications and experience are used in the calculation of remuneration.

About St Mary’s Primary School BOWRAVILLE

St Mary’s school in Bowraville, New South Wales, is a co-educational, independent primary school and part of the Nambucca Valley Parish. The school, which has been delivering a Catholic education for over 100 years, caters for children from Kindergarten to Year 6. It has a predominately indigenous enrolment.

The school is committed to retaining the traditional indigenous culture of the Gumbaynggirr people and for all its children to keep a connection with their identity.

Curriculum

The Key Learning Areas (KLAs) are English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Human Society and its Environment, Creative Arts and Personal Development, Health and Physical Education.
