Job overview

Required! - an exceptionally able professional, passionate about helping every child succeed and improve their life chances, to lead the spiritual life of our Academy

20 hours per week; term time + 5 days (some work during school holiday periods) Permanent post to start ASAP

We are a 3-19 all age fully inclusive Academy on an exciting journey to become an outstanding organisation and delighted to be able to offer state-of-the-art facilities in a new £36 million building providing staff with the opportunity to work in a cutting edge and vibrant environment. It is an exciting time to be joining us as, alongside our new headteacher, we work hard to improve and bring in line our KS4 outcomes with those in our primary and 6th form phases which are already considered to be good.

We are currently in consultation to join the newly formed Bishop Fraser Trust alongside two outstanding schools - St James’s C of E High School and Canon Slade School, with whom we are already working collaboratively, accessing training opportunities through the Teaching School at St James’s, sharing good practice and building on the much needed improvement work and progress that has been taking place this year.

Preferably with previous school experience, you will be working under the guidance of the Headteacher and Pastoral leader, leading on the development of the Christian ethos in the school.

This post is a fantastic opportunity for a practising Christian, experienced in working with particularly secondary aged young people in an educational context and with exceptional interpersonal skills, to build on the foundations already in place in further promoting our core Christian values throughout our community.

Through creatively supporting and delivering suitable forms of collective worship, being a strong and visible presence around school and working to develop new initiatives to engage our young people and staff in activities reflective of our Christian character, you will play a key role in encouraging all, no matter what their faith or no faith, in their own spiritual journey.

We are seeking someone who:

  • Is committed to the spiritual and personal development of young people of secondary and primary school age
  • enjoys the company and challenge of young people in their teenage years, able to easily build rapport and establish effective professional relationships
  • has exceptional levels of personal integrity, discretion, honesty, reliability and self-awareness
  • has significant experience of working with young people in an educational context
  • has highly developed communication and presentation skills
  • has an easy and humorous manner which combines openness and engagement with challenge and formality
  • is an articulate speaker and can deliver imaginative and creative forms of collective worship
  • can network with other schools' chaplains and youth workers and also local clergy

In return we can offer:

  • a forward looking, hardworking and enthusiastic team of staff with the desire to improve outcomes and make a profound difference to the lives of young people
  • a paid premium to a Healthcare Cash Plan to claim back contributions towards dental, optical and other medical costs
  • 24/7 access to an Employee Assistance Programme
  • Access to a Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Access to a Childcare Voucher Scheme
  • A lunch allowance for those colleagues volunteering to assist in lunchtime duties or activities

Please note that if BSCA joins The Bishop Fraser Trust, then employment would transfer to the MAT.

Visits to the school are welcomed. Please contact Lydia Pyke, Head’s PA on 01204 332533, to arrange.

The academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service. We welcome applications regardless of age, gender, ethnicity or religion.

Closing date: 9.00am Monday 5th February 2018.

Bolton St Catherine’s Academy is located in a £36 million building with innovative spaces and state of the art facilities to support children’s learning. These facilities are amongst the very best in the country and support us in delivering a rich, varied and relevant curriculum and fantastic extra curricular activities outside the classroom. We are co-located with Firwood High School with whom we share some central facilities and to whom we also provide some ancillary services.

Bolton St Catherine’s Academy is an inclusive, purposeful and high achieving educational community for children and young people aged 3 to 19. The Christian values of hope, valuing self and others, responsibility, truth, forgiveness and justice pervade all aspects of Academy life. The care, guidance and support for our children and young people are exceptional. Our specialisms are business and enterprise, leadership and mathematics and we promote life-long learning.

It is an exciting time to be joining us as we work hard to improve and bring in line our KS4 outcomes with those in our primary and 6th form phases which are already considered to be good. We are in the final stages of consultation to join two outstanding schools in the newly formed Bishop Fraser Trust early next year - St James’s C of E High School and Canon Slade School, where there will be opportunities to work collaboratively within the wider MAT community, sharing good practice and building on the much needed improvement work and progress that has been taking place in our secondary phase this year. As a family of Church of England schools we believe we can offer more opportunities to pupils and staff and continue to create an educational environment which celebrates the uniqueness of every child.

Through the values of  • Work hard. • Be respectful and honest. • Value others and relationships with them •  we continue to build on the progress we have made. Our Secondary and Primary schools are full again this year and not forgetting that in 2016 Ofsted judged our Primary School and Sixth Form as "Good". Our Primary school has also gained the best KS2 results of any school in the BL2 postcode area. We continue to develop the mind set and culture within the Academy so that every member of our community, students and staff, strives hard to make progress and takes immense pride in their effort and work.

Our students will leave us with:  • Good academic outcomes • The Christian values of respect, tolerance and service • A positive and enduring outlook  so that they live happy, healthy and purposeful lives – irrespective of their background or circumstances.
