CLARINET & SAXOPHONE TUTOR (SELF-EMPLOYED)    

PLEASE NOTE: lessons in September-December 2020 will take place partly, or wholly online via Google Meet. Training in our online procedure will be provided. Our aim is to bring all lessons back onsite, as soon as it is safe and logistically possible.

The School is looking for a self-employed clarinet & saxophone tutor to teach for 6-8 hours per week. You would be teaching girls in Years 7 - 13 and girls and boys in Years 12 - 13.

Founded in 1791, The St Marylebone CE School is a successful comprehensive school for girls with a mixed sixth form, serving students of all faiths or no faith. 

As a school with a specialism in the Performing Arts, Music plays a very important role and Music tuition is at the forefront of extra-curricular provision.   

You will join a friendly and supportive team of 16 peripatetic teachers and be welcomed into the Music Faculty. Our teachers are highly regarded in the music world and perform regularly alongside their teaching.  


ABOUT THE ROLE 

The role will involve teaching students one-on-one in a range of styles. Experience of clarinet & saxophone tuition is essential and a minimum of Grade 8 in either instrument is expected, as is experience of preparing students for their ABRSM, Trinity and LCM exams, as well as GCSE and A-Level performances. 


HOURS 

Initially 6-8 hours teaching per week but with the opportunity to expand depending on student demand. The ideal candidate would be able to offer regularity of service and provide 30 lessons throughout the year, split across 3 terms as set by the School on a regular set day each week between 8am and 4pm. Current teaching days available onsite are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Although we require the teaching day to be set, some flexibility can be offered occasionally. 


LOCATION 

The School is situated in a prime Central London location on Marylebone High Street with excellent transport links. Nearest tube stations: Baker Street, Regents’ Park, Bond Street.  


PERSON SPECIFICATION 

Essential: 

  • Previous clarinet/saxophone tuition experience. 
  • Friendly and enthusiastic with a passion for clarinet/saxophone. 
  • Experience preparing students for ABRSM, Trinity and LCM exams. 
  • Able to provide a reliable, consistent service (regularity of teaching days). 


Desirable:

  • Performance experience. 
  • Music graduate or well-qualified in Music education/performance.

The St Marylebone CE School is an all-girls secondary with co-educational sixth form in Westminster, central London. It is affiliated with the Church of England and designated a National Teaching School. Since 2011, St Marylebone has had academy status.

The secondary school is located next to St Marylebone Parish Church and is a short walk from Regent’s Park. The sixth-form facilities are based in nearby Blandford Street. St Marylebone was founded in 1791 and it carries the motto "An opportunity to excel". There are currently around 1,100 students, 300 of whom are in the sixth form.
