Join our warm and vibrant music department at Dean Close Prep, where music education is a key focus within our school community. With dedicated rooms for academic teaching and numerous individual music tuition spaces, our department offers a thriving and inspiring environment. We host over 25 concerts, workshops, and events each year, showcasing the talent and dedication of our students.

Role and Duties:

Teaching

  • Deliver one-to-one music lessons to pupils in response to the needs of the school, aiming for approximately 30 lessons per academic year.
  • Teach across age ranges in our prep school (Year 3 to Year 8), with potential expansion into pre-prep (Year 2) if desired.

Assessments and Reports

  • Enter pupils for external examinations, concerts, and musical events as appropriate.
  • Assess, record, and report on pupils' development, progress, and attainment.
  • Communicate and consult with parents when necessary.

Management and Administration

  • Collaborate with the Director of Music and Music Department Administrator to develop and maintain a timetable.
  • Ensure timely communication with parents and pupils regarding any changes to the timetable.
  • Maintain detailed attendance records and provide necessary information for charges and payments.
  • Arrange substitute teachers if unable to teach, ensuring high standards and continuity of service.
  • Report any pupil absences promptly.

Professional Development

  • Stay updated on developments and teaching methods to maintain professional competence.
  • Participate in appraisals and training as required.

Person Specification:

  • Ideally educated to post-graduate level on the Clarinet and Saxaphone.
  • Demonstrated ability and enthusiasm for teaching students of all ages and levels, including beginners.
  • Passion for teaching reception-age pupils (4 years old) is essential.
  • Loyal, honest, trustworthy, and reliable.
  • Enthusiastic, highly motivated, and well-organized.
  • Confident, proactive, and flexible in approach.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, maintaining professionalism and enthusiasm.
  • Strong communication skills and a desire to improve knowledge.
  • Interest in jazz, composition, and/or improvisation is desirable.
