Job overview

Job Description
A teacher is needed to work in one of Scotland’s most beautifully located primary schools, set in what is widely known as Scotland’s ‘longest, loneliest and loveliest’ glens.

We are seeking an outstanding teacher who has lots of enthusiasm, flexibility across a variety of roles, patience, a love of the outdoors and a highly dynamic attitude who can join our outstandingly lovely, rural community.  Days and times can be negotiated.

Glenlyon Primary has a current roll of 7 Primary and 5 Nursery children.

Our school has been extensively redeveloped in recent years, and we also have an ‘Outdoor Learning Classroom’, which was funded by our Parent Council and the local community.

Active and experiential learning is key to our curriculum, and we particularly love to learn outdoors through our weekly Forest Schools programme, through our John Muir Trust award programme, and lots of additional ways that we use the beautiful woodlands and fields on our doorstep.

Our recent inspection stated “Children learn enthusiastically in the beautiful, rich outdoor environment surrounding the school.  Learning for sustainability is embedded across the curriculum with children, developing a strong understanding of their environmental responsibilities and how they embrace their environment.  The school capitalises on the dynamics of being a small school and compensates, where necessary, to ensure children have access to see, and participate in, the world beyond Glenlyon. This is an important part in the success of the school.”

The Individual
We are currently looking to recruit an experienced teacher to take on the role of managing our multi-composite primary class.

You will be enthusiastic, reliable, self-motivated and committed to high levels of customer service with a proven ability to maintain positive and supportive relationships with children, colleagues, and parents.

You will be working alongside dedicated practitioners, encouraging positive relationships, and the creation of a warm and stimulating environment for growing minds to develop.

You will have responsibility for the development and delivery of high-quality learning and teaching which meets the needs of all pupils.

You will be a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual who is willing to be brave, explore your own professional development and apply new learning.

When completing your application for this post, please ensure that you provide contact details for two referees, including email addresses. One should be your current or most recent employer. If you are already employed as a teacher with Perth & Kinross Council, you are only required to provide 1 reference, which must be from your current Head Teacher.

As part of our safer recruitment measures, Perth & Kinross Council carries out rigorous checks on the right to work in the UK, qualifications, employment history, including references, and fitness to undertake the post.

Some jobs may have been traditionally carried out predominately by one gender, but we would encourage you to apply if you meet the requirements, irrespective of your gender.

Perth & Kinross Council welcomes applications from former armed forces personnel/reservists. Many of the skills picked up during your military career could be transferred directly into a role with local government.
