Are you passionate about teaching and learning? Defence Children Services (DCS) is looking to appoint three enthusiastic and motivated classroom teachers across our Akrotiri (1 post) and Episkopi Primary Schools (2 posts). Currently, our schools are keen to recruit Early Years or Key Stage 1 teachers. The successful candidates will be strong classroom practitioners who are passionate about education and learning. The schools are situated in the Western Sovereign Base Area of Cyprus. This is an extraordinary place in which to learn and work. History, nature and technology exudes around every corner and even in the skies above us.

This post is advertised as Full time at 30 hours per week

Job Description

The successful candidate will need to be motivated, innovative, flexible and have a proven track record of working with children with a wide range of needs. They will have a passion for developing and extending potential in our pupils by recognising and nurturing individual qualities and strengths, and understanding well, the unique context of the school. This position is also suitable for ECTs and we would be delighted to support you through your first years of teaching. 

This appointment is subject to the teachers’ current conditions of employment contained in out in the current School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions document and the Teachers’ Standards in reference to MOD Schools teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document, other current educational and employment legislation and the school’s ethos statement. The post holder will also be expected to take on the leadership and management of a curriculum area in addition to their class role. Our schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment

Person Specification

Essential Skills and knowledge:

  • Recent and relevant experience of teaching within the primary phase, specifically the Early Years or Key Stage 1.
  • An excellent, learning practitioner who is able to meet all the standards as required by the Teaching Standards.
  • To be able to effectively use data, assessment and target setting to raise standards/address weaknesses.
  • To have a strong understanding of National policies, priorities and statutory frameworks.
  • To have a strong understanding and knowledge of assessment and tracking of pupil progress.
  • To be able to effectively use technology to enhance teaching and learning.
  • To be able to create and promote a stimulating learning environment for all learners.
  • To demonstrate good understanding of and commitment to inclusion and evidence inclusive practice which enables all to succeed and be challenged.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and young people
  • An understanding of health and safety and how this is managed in the workplace relevant to the role
  • Have experience of having taught in a UK or MOD school.

Qualifications

Qualified Teaching Status (QTS)

Evidence of qualification will be required at interview. All qualifications/licences declared must be held at point of application and if applicable be in date. Equivalent Qualifications will not be accepted.

In line with the TACOs for this post, accommodation is free for the first five years of your MOD employment overseas with subsidised utilities. Thereafter, rent and utilities are payable. Please note if you have previously worked overseas for the MOD and have been in recipient of free rent and utilities then that period will be deducted from your five-year allowance. 

This post offers full relocation allowances subject to availability. Cost of Living Overseas Allowances is payable based on personal circumstances and marital status.
