Attenborough School is part of Defence Children Services (DCS), who are a Defence delivery organisation, subordinated under Army Regional Command. Our Vision is that we Educate the Child – Support the Family – Defend the Nation. HQ DCS is UK based at Trenchard Lines, Upavon and has forward deployed staff all over the world. DCS is responsible for the education and care of children of accompanied Service and Defence entitled personnel in MOD schools and settings; provides advice and guidance in respect of education for service families in the United Kingdom and the wider world.
The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs around 7,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. Ours is a diverse workforce, with roles ranging from trainers, human resources, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff. There are many different functions and professions delivering key outputs for the Army. As such using data to aid understanding of our workforce is vital.
This position is advertised at 30 hours per week.
Specially recruited for overseas service appointees are not expected to return to the UK.
Job Description
Within this role you will fulfil the professional responsibilities of a Class Teacher, as set out in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document, and meet the expectations set out in the Department for Education (DfE) Teachers’ Standards (Teachers' standards - GOV.UK). You will be directly responsible to the Headteacher for his/her general duties and responsibilities. This role will include:
Teaching:
- Plan and teach well-structured lessons to an assigned class, following the school’s vision to create tomorrow’s successful global citizens. Individuals who care about others and their learning.
- Deliver the curriculum as relevant to the age and ability group/subject/s that you teach.
- Be accountable to the progress and attainment of all children that you teach.
- Assess, monitor, record and report on the learning needs, progress and achievements of assigned pupils, making accurate and productive use of assessment
- Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of pupils.
- Be aware of pupils’ capabilities, their prior knowledge and plan teaching and differentiate appropriately to build on these, demonstrating knowledge and understanding of how pupils learn.
- Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils at all times.
- Promote good progress and outcomes by pupils.
- Demonstrate good subject and knowledge of the National Curriculum for England.
- Participate in arrangements for preparing pupils for external tests.
Whole-school organisation, strategy and development:
- Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the school’s policies, Learning Development Plan, practices and procedures, so as to support the school’s values and vision.
- Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school.
- Work with others on curriculum and pupil development to secure co-ordinated outcomes.
- Provide cover, in the unforeseen circumstance that another teacher is unable to teach.
Health, safety and discipline
- Promote the safety and well-being of pupils at all times.
- Actively seek out and implement best practice safety procedures.
- Establish a safe, purposeful and stimulating environment for pupils, rooted in mutual respect with a range of strategies employed, including use of praise, sanctions and rewards consistently and fairly.
- Maintain good relationships with pupils, exercise appropriate authority, and act decisively when necessary.
- Be a positive role model and demonstrate consistently the positive attitudes, values and behaviours, which are expected of pupils.
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people, and follow school policies and the staff code of conduct at all times.
- Carry out playground and other duties as directed.

Person Specification
Candidates will be assessed against these technical skills during the selection process:

- Fulfil wider professional responsibilities.
Essential Experience
- Experience of teaching in Primary and EYFS in a UK or DCS Schools.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and successful completion of induction.
Desirable Experience
- Recent experience of effective leadership of Music and/or Physical Education.

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and successful completion of induction.
Evidence will be required at interview.
