Job overview

Class Teacher Yr 1 – 5
Full Time 32.5 hours, Permanent, AYR
Salary Grade: Main Pay Range Spine Point 1-6
Salary per annum: £28,098 - £38,241 per annum

The governors of Clerkenwell Parochial CE Primary School are looking for a passionate, talented Y1-5 class teacher who will make a highly effective contribution to the continued success of this much-loved Church of England school nestled in the ‘Amwell village’ near Sadlers Wells theatre and the Angel, Islington. Our historic grade-1 listed building, 317-year history, wonderful pupils and very supportive parents make the school a very special place to be. At CPS, the frequently remarked upon welcoming atmosphere and positive ethos is such that children can excel and teachers love teaching. Visits are therefore highly recommended.

We take pride in the quality of our professional development and have excellent systems in place to support the growth of our staff, enabling them to flourish. The curriculum is on a 2-year cycle so that teachers across neighbouring year groups (e.g. Y3 & 4) can plan together in partnership; this helps to foster team-working and supports the development of less experienced staff.

We are looking for someone with:
- excellent communication skills and the capacity to enthuse pupils
- a collaborative approach who will work in partnership with all the stakeholders in the school
- evidence of very effective classroom practice
- enthusiasm and dedication to help them be an active part of our cheerful staff
- high expectations of both themselves, colleagues and pupils
- a willingness to uphold the Christian ethos of the school (whilst not necessarily being a Christian themselves)
- a commitment to helping to enhance an already rich thematic curriculum

The following are headline summaries from three external reviews conducted at CPS in the last 18 months by experienced consultants:

“The headteacher conveys ambition and high expectations for this highly effective school. Pupils receive high quality teaching so that they can achieve as well as they can.”
Head of Islington LA School Improvement, Oct ‘15

“The teaching observed was outstanding overall. There was an excellent learning ethos in each class and very strong gains were being made.”
Ex-Ofsted Lead Inspector, Jan ‘16

“The teaching and learning observed was consistently strong across the school.”
Senior LDBS Schools’ Advisor, Jan ‘16

The OFSTED autumn 2016 ‘Data Dashboard’ described CPS as having ‘no significant weaknesses’ and the school converted to a second day of inspection in Dec 2016 due to the inspector’s wish to collect more evidence that it may be outstanding. Safeguarding issues led to an alternative outcome. The school will remain well supported by the London Diocese to consolidate the very rapid improvements that have been made in the safeguarding areas identified by Ofsted (teaching and pupil outcomes were ‘good’). The London Diocese has over 150 schools and a strong multi-academy trust with the capacity to support and develop teachers at all stages of their careers within an ethos based on strong Christian values.

We very much welcome visits to the school - please call the school office to arrange this.

Application packs can be requested via the school email address below. Enquiries regarding the role should be addressed to headteacher@clerkenwell.islington.sch.uk

Closing date: 12.00pm on Thursday 27th April 2017

Interview date: Week beginning 1st May 2017

CPS is committed to the safeguarding of children so all appointments are subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check. CPS is committed to the principle of equality of opportunity
