The School

At Bishop Wood Junior School our Christian faith and values form the basis of everything we do. As a Church of England school, our vision can be summed up in four words: Wisdom, Hope, Community and Dignity. We believe that these four words underpin all that we strive to achieve both as a school and as an employer.

Bishop Wood is a fantastic school set in a beautiful part of Hertfordshire. The staff and pupils are extremely friendly and welcoming, and the school sits at the heart of a strong, supportive community. Ofsted rated Bishop Wood as a ‘Good’ school at the last inspection (January 2017)

Bishop Wood School is a voluntary aided coeducational school for children aged 7 to 11 years. The maximum capacity of the school is 240 pupils spread over four different year groups with two classes per year.

The school, located in the centre of Tring, is on a large site with open playing fields surrounded by hedging and trees. It has two playgrounds, an outdoor trim trail, a small woodland play area, a gardening area and an outdoor classroom. The single-storey buildings are largely on one level and accessible for wheelchair users. There is a large assembly hall, a library and a separate music room. The bright dining hall, lit by windows on the pyramidal roof, is a cheerful space at the heart of the school.

This role offers a great opportunity and in return we offer:

  • Salary of £29.344 - £40,083 (including fringe allowance) depending on experience
  • A supportive, team-focused and compassionate working environment
  • A genuinely rewarding experience with happy children who demonstrate strong engagement in their learning
  • A commitment to ensuring a good level of work/life balance
  • A track record of providing diverse opportunities for continuing professional development and career development, for all members of staff
  • Delightful, well-behaved, hardworking children
  • Job shares will be considered
  • An espresso machine in the staffroom and, as if you needed more reasons to join us, and we really don’t like to brag, but… a photocopier that works all the time!

Bishop Wood School is committed to providing equality of opportunity and to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check. References will be sought for all applicants invited to interview.
