Job overview

Responsible to: Head of Section, Senior Leadership Team and ultimately to the Head

Join our enthusiastic and student focused team at The Lyceum School, which is located in the heart of The City of London. We seek to appoint a class teacher who will enjoy teaching a creative, topic-based curriculum in a school with exceptional pastoral care.

The Lyceum School is an independent prep school for just over 140 boys and girls aged 3 to 11. Founded in 1997, the school is well known for its equal emphasis on the arts and academics. We teach a topic-based curriculum which links many subjects and allows our teachers to plan creative schemes of work that draw on their own knowledge and passions. We have specialist teachers for Art, Music, PE, Spanish and Latin. We welcome teachers who can bring with them specialist interests. The Lyceum provides rigorous pastoral care that places pupils' well-being at the heart of all we do.

Children go on to a range of predominantly independent secondary schools, with many pupils being awarded scholarships. We regularly receive offers to schools such as Highgate, Alleyn’s, James Allen’s Girls’ School (JAGs), Channing, Queen’s College, Francis Holland, Forest, UCS and Wetherby.

The Lyceum is part of a larger family of nursery, prep and senior schools called Dukes Education. Being a member of The Lyceum team means being a member of the Dukes family who provide CPD, conferences and many networking opportunities. Dukes’ vision is to create a family of unique and extraordinary schools who support one another whilst maintaining their own identity.

 Class Teacher (Maternity Cover)

We are seeking to appoint a creative and enthusiastic class teacher who has high expectations across the range of abilities, and experience of helping pupils to meet these expectations. The successful candidate will have the knowledge and experience required to teach reading and writing to a high standard, along with an enthusiasm for teaching all primary subjects. Creativity and flexibility are essential. The successful applicant will have knowledge of up-to-date safeguarding practice.

Professional Conduct

You must have proper and professional regard for the ethos, policies and practices of our school and maintain high standards in your own attendance and punctuality.

You must have an understanding of, and always act within, the statutory frameworks which set out your professional duties and responsibilities.

At The Lyceum School, we expect each other to uphold public trust in the profession and maintain high standards of ethics and behaviour, within and outside school, by: treating pupils with dignity, building relationships rooted in mutual respect, and at all times observing proper boundaries appropriate to a teacher’s professional position of having regard for the need to safeguard pupils’ well-being, in accordance with statutory provisions of showing tolerance of and respect for the rights of others, of not undermining fundamental British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs, of ensuring that personal beliefs are not expressed in ways which exploit pupils’ vulnerability or might lead them to break the law.
