Job overview

“Teachers always talk about how important it is to find a school that ‘feels right’ and Melbourn Primary School is that school. It is a very welcoming and supportive place to work. The staff are a dedicated and inspiring team and the children are enthusiastic and eager learn. The school is a fantastic place to work and everyone is approachable and keen to share experiences and ideas. I have loved working in an environment where you always feel you can ask, and colleagues will be more than happy to help you find the answer. Everyone is professional yet fun and friendly to work with. I have very much been made to feel part of the family since joining MPS.” (Recently appointed teacher)

We are currently looking for a KS2 teacher to join our team in January, we hope you might be them.

Melbourn Primary School is a warm and welcoming school on the Cambridgeshire / Hertfordshire border. We are a short car journey or only a 15-minute train ride from Cambridge city centre. It is an exciting time to join our school. We have benefitted from a significant building programme so have some lovely new accommodation.

Our children are friendly and enjoy learning. We believe that learning should be irresistible and we strive for excellence in all we do.

We are looking for teachers who:

• Are talented practitioners who place children at the centre of their practice

• Are warm and caring towards all children

• Are committed to raising standards with high expectations of all adults and children

• Are dynamic and enthusiastic with a great sense of humour and who enjoy working in a team

• Are bursting with ideas and have the capacity to involve themselves fully in the life of our school

In return we will offer:

• A friendly and supportive staff team committed to raising standards

• A strong commitment to further professional development

• Fun and hard-working children

• Undisturbed PPA time (the school closes at 1.30pm on Fridays) and additional time for our subject leaders

• An exciting opportunity to be part of a caring school on its journey to excellence

ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

Melbourn Primary School is a co-educational primary school catering for children from age 4 years to 11 years.  The school has origins in Melbourn going back to 1818.  The "old building" has a foundation stone dated 1855, the remaining parts of the school being added in the 1970s and 1980s. We are fortunate that we have just been given funding for some redevelopment of the school. We will have a new hall, kitchen and entrance to the school. We will also welcome onto the school site a Children’s Centre and pre-school facility.

Melbourn is situated in South Cambridgeshire, 2 miles north of Royston, 10 miles south of Cambridge and is by-passed by the A10. It is a lively, thriving village and home to over 4400 inhabitants.

The community is mixed.  Many of our parents have moved into the village to work locally or commute to London.  Others are ex-pupils themselves.  The appearance of the village is also mixed. Whilst you can still see how the village appeared at the turn of the century before a fire swept through the centre of the village, you will also see that we now have a lot of modern housing.  Indeed, development continues and the school is seeing an increase in pupil numbers.
