Class Teacher

Currently, Midlothian has 6 secondary schools, 32 primary schools (19 of which have nurseries) and 2 stand alone nursery schools. Our special school, Saltersgate, provides support for children with a range of physical, social, emotional, behavioural and learning difficulties. The schools range in size from our smallest primary school with around 20 children to our largest secondary with over 1200 pupils. We have a diverse range of school catchments, from rural to urban settings. We are fortunate to have a growing number of new build schools, with 15 of our primary schools and 1 secondary having been built within the last 10 years and several new builds planned.

Roslin Primary School is a non-denominational primary school serving the areas of Roslin and Bilston. The main building is situated in Roslin and has 9 classes across P1-7. There is also a nursery class with spaces for 20 morning and afternoon children. The other site is an annexe located in Bilston, approximately one mile from Roslin. In this location there is a morning nursery class and a composite P1/2 and P2/3 class.

The main school was opened in 1971. The school is situated in extensive grounds with beautiful views towards the Pentlands. It is built around two internal courtyards that are used by the pupils for growing vegetables, fruit and plants as well as for recreational and other educational purposes.

The current roll of the Primary School is 225 pupils organised in 9 classes. Plans for new housing in Bilston include the construction of a new one stream Primary School due to open in August 2016. Roslin will also be getting a new school construction by August 2017.

Roslin Primary School is one of three primary schools associated with Beeslack High School. We have very positive links with Beeslack and the surrounding community. At Roslin Primary School we strive to create an engaging and nurturing environment for learning. We aim for excellence and celebrate diversity, inclusion and effort. Our pupils are well behaved, motivated and keen to learn. Our school vision promotes respect for ourselves, others and our environment.

We have visiting specialist PE teachers from Beeslack for P3-P7 and visiting teachers of strings, woodwind and brass teach for P6 and P7 pupils.

All staff work hard to provide a high quality education for all children. We work with all our partners in our school community to support and educate our children. There are a wide variety of opportunities for parents and families to be involved in the life and work of the school. Our active Parent Partnership participates in policy developments and supports the school in its drive towards continuous improvement.
