Job overview

Currently, Midlothian has 6 secondary schools, 32 primary schools (19 of which have nurseries) and 2 stand alone nursery schools. Our special school, Saltersgate, provides support for children with a range of physical, social, emotional, behavioural and learning difficulties. The schools range in size from our smallest primary school with around 20 children to our largest secondary with over 1200 pupils. We have a diverse range of school catchments, from rural to urban settings. We are fortunate to have a growing number of new build schools, with 15 of our primary schools and 1 secondary having been built within the last 10 years and several new builds planned.

Rosewell Primary School is a non-denominational primary school serving the village of Rosewell. Our school motto is ‘Learning together for a better future’ which reflects our vision of the community taking responsibility and being involved in the children’s learning. There is an active and very supportive parental body that support extra-curricular activities and a range of successful fund-raising events.

The school is part of the Lasswade High School Associated School Group. The village itself has grown over the past few years with additional building work planned over the coming sessions. This is reflected in the school itself and during session 2013/14, a new extension was added to the school giving us three new classrooms together with a new library.

The school roll had risen over the past few years and is currently 106. There are 5 classes in the primary school. Four out of the five classes are composite classes. The nursery class provides 20 places in the morning and 20 in the afternoon.

Our development priorities for this session are currently focused on creating a shared ethos and vision throughout the school, developing clear systems for assessment and achievement and agreeing expectations for learners across literacy and numeracy. Our staff team are fully involved in school development work and self evaluation and play a key role in developing the school.
