Roles and Responsibilities

The roles and responsibilities outlined in this job description are in addition to those covered by the School’s terms and conditions of employment document. The School teachers pay and conditions document is broadly adopted at LHPA but where the schools documents differ from those of the STPCD the schools documents take precedence.

1) To have an up to date knowledge and understanding of the professional duties of teachers and the statutory framework within which you work. 

2) To take responsibility for implementing school policies and practice, including those relating to inclusion and equality of opportunity.

3) To plan effectively to ensure children have the opportunity to meet their potential, irrespective of ability, race or gender; and taking account of the needs of childs who are under achieving, more able, or not yet fluent in English.

4) To teach all children in a way that is imaginative, creative and inspiring; appropriate to their age and stage of development.

5) To teach using a variety of styles and approaches to ensure that consideration is given to preferred learning styles.

6) To reflect on the teaching methods used to ensure that they are effective in promoting learning and encouraging curiosity. To make self-reflective judgements on teaching with a commitment to continuously improving practice. 

7) To monitor children’s learning, requesting and responding to regular feedback from SLT, Line Managers, colleagues, children and parents. 

8) To source resources that will enhance teaching and learning experiences and support the schools’ commitment to inspire and motive children. 

9) To plan, organise and risk-assess suitable educational visits to enhance teaching and learning. 

10) To provide feedback to the Executive Head and the Heads of Schools on child progress using Child Progress Meeting data to inform planning and provision in order to ensure strong outcomes and accelerated learning for identified target children.

11) To promote the areas of teaching that the teacher is responsible for so that they are seen as areas of strength and allow children to develop their knowledge and understanding to the very highest level. 

12) To help to develop the curriculum in the areas in which they teach.

13) To provide written reports on child progress that will be fed into the childrens termly school reports.

14) To create a stimulating and motivating learning environment that will enhance children’s learning experiences - including the provision of an inviting Book Corner that promotes reading for pleasure.

15) To access The Laser (school intranet) on a daily basis, keeping up to date with policy and procedure changes and reading school news. 

16) To acknowledge and/or respond to parent/carer emails within 24 hours.

17) To take an active part in organising and attending all parent meetings, workshops, information events, open days, school trips/holidays, concerts and plays as notified by the school calendar. 

18) To find ways to help vulnerable parents and children from challenging backgrounds;  being prepared to go the extra mile to meet their needs through Quality First Teach (QfT) strategies.

19) To work closely with the schools SENDCo to apply problem solving strategies to overcome challenges with children and their parents, ensuring that all communication is clear and has SMART targets that aim for positive outcomes. 

20) To work effectively as part of a team, understanding the role that is played by yourself and others. 

21) To work at forming good relationships with children, parents, work colleagues and other professionals, understanding the important part this plays in creating a community of people with a common purpose who value and respect the rights of others as well as themselves. 

22) To fully promote and engage with all aspects of the schools Outdoor Learning Policy.

23) To effectively direct and utilise Learning Support Assistants and volunteers for greatest impact on children’s learning and development.

24) To attend team, staff and twilight meetings.

25) To work as part of the team; have proper and professional regard for the ethos, policies and practices of the school in which you teach, and maintain high standards of attendance and punctuality.

To adhere to the School Communication Code and Professional Conduct of Staff,Policy; publicly demonstrating consistently positive attitudes, values and behaviour in relation to all aspects of school life; communicating effectively with children, colleagues, parents and the wider school community.

26) To adhere to the schools’ Social Media, GDPR, E- Safety and Medical Medicines and Accident Policies; being mindful of the importance of portraying the school in a positive light and retaining your own and the schools’ confidentiality at all times. 

27) To ensure the safety of all children, young people and vulnerable adults within the school. To complete the annual Safeguarding training and understand and comply with all Safeguarding policies and practices.

28) To immediately report any safeguarding concerns using CPOMS (online safeguarding platform).

29) To be vigilant in reporting all matters relating to health and safety and to take responsibility for your own personal health and safety.

30) To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by your Executive Head, SLT or Line Manager.
