Job overview

Class Teacher

Hawkswood Primary

Fixed term leading to permanent for the right candidate

Hawkswood Primary is a specialist provision for young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.  We offer a short-term therapeutic and educational intervention (typically two terms) for children aged 5-11.

Our pupils are bright, conscientious and awesome.  They require calm, encouraging and enabling adult support.  Some of our pupils have an EHCP for additional needs such as SEMH, ADHD and or ASD etc.  Some of our pupils have experienced trauma in their early years.

As a team we work hard to build resilience, social skills and mental wellbeing to enable pupils to return to mainstream school.

Facilities are excellent, class sizes are small, and SLT have a strong commitment to staff wellbeing.  We have on-site student social workers, two CAMHs therapists, and a Chartered Psychologist who supports children and families.  Together we work as a team to provide intensive care and support.

What we are looking for:

• Do you want to make a difference where it most counts?

• Do you believe that every young person has the potential to succeed with the right help and support?

• Do you believe in the power of educational to change lives?

We are seeking committed and highly motivated staff to work as part of our team.  We are keen to appoint teachers who understand the importance of high quality teaching and learning with a personalised approach to meet individual needs.  We have posts available for full time and also a 0.6 class teacher.

We have an excellent curriculum which enables pupils to close gaps in learning and develop a love for reading.  Children have daily PE, Maths, English and Topic.  All subjects are linked to our core texts which bring the whole curriculum to life and help children to deeply connect with our themes around personal impact.

Don’t worry if you don’t have special school experience: very few of us did before we came here, the drive and desire to learn is however absolutely essential.

What we can offer you:

• An Ofsted Outstanding school.

• A school with a strong sense of moral purpose and ethical practice with focus on wellbeing.

• Great CPD opportunities and commitment to developing professional practice relating promoting mental and emotional fitness.  A commitment from Leadership to promote and support innovation.

• A school which expects the highest standards of pupil conduct, both in school and in the local community.

• An idyllic school environment, nestled in Epping Forest.
