Kirknewton Primary is a non-denominational primary school serving the village of Kirknewton and the surrounding community. At present the school roll is 207 pupils as well as a 30:30 nursery provision. Accommodation consists of 7 classrooms; a Support for Learning room; a shared Technologies room and gym hall/canteen. The school is sharing a campus with East Calder Primary for session 2015/16 and will return to Kirknewton for August 2016. The staff team consists of the Head Teacher, a Principal Teacher and ten class teachers. A specialist teacher delivers PE and the cluster benefit from a cluster Active Schools Coordinator. All pupils receive regular French lessons across the school and in line with the 1+2 languages agenda. We have a visiting specialist for brass instruction one morning per week for pupils in primary five to primary seven. A Support for Learning teacher also works part time supporting pupils across all stages of the school. There are four pupil support workers who are allocated between all classes in the school. The admin staff, janitor, cleaners and kitchen staff complete a team dedicated to the welfare of the children at the school.

Kirknewton Primary School is a welcoming and inclusive school where children are respected as individuals and encouraged to participate in the life of the school. We celebrate opportunities to succeed in every area of the curriculum as well as wider achievements. Educational visits, both locally and further afield, are an important part of the life of the school. Kirknewton Primary offers a curriculum, based on the four capacities linked to curriculum for excellence and it is our aim that we will succeed in making every child: a successful learner; confident individual; responsible citizen and an effective contributor. We are very proud of all our children and strive to provide excellent opportunities for them to succeed in school, in the wider community and in their future life. We have strong partnerships with our parents and carers and our local community who support the work of the school.
