Job overview

We are looking for a dynamic Primary Classroom Teacher to teach a small class of pupils with additional learning needs. You will work closely with your phase team, SENCO and a group of teaching assistants to provide high-quality teaching and support 

Ours is a very special school with particularly brilliant pupils. We are a one and a half form entry school which caters for the whole community. The diverse range of pupils reflect our Wapping setting, with families who have links to a huge range of countries across the world. We work hard to teach equality and teamwork and are very proud of our pupils' excellent behaviour and positive attitudes.

The school is based close to the River Thames, a stone's throw away from St Katherine's Docks; the Tower of London and Tower Bridge. We are close to both Tower Hill tube station and Wapping Overground, with good bus links to the rest of Tower Hamlets. We have a large playground (including a Forest School) which has recently been refurbished, and the school benefits from local links, including with the Unicorn Theatre as the Tower Hamlets partner school.

Ours is a truly inclusive school. We have very bright and capable pupils, with strong results across the school. We also welcome pupils with additional needs and will soon be opening our specialist provision for pupils with autism. We are working towards the Inclusion Quality Mark and this is forming the basis of our School Improvement Plan for next year.

In the Autumn term, we will be joining the LETTA trust—a small but brilliant trust which shares our vision for excellent education. We are already benefitting from their knowledge and expertise and look forward to sharing our developing specialist knowledge with a wider team.

As a community school, we are committed to serving the local area and our curriculum focuses on extending the national curriculum to get our pupils out and about and making links with their local environment and its residents. We believe that children benefit from, and are inspired by, the opportunity to be creative and are committed to bringing our pupils' learning to life.

Hermitage Primary School is situated near St Katharine Docks, the River Thames and the Tower of London. This small and friendly community school caters for children aged 3 to 11 years. It has the capacity to take up to 360 pupils. The school welcomes children from all cultures and backgrounds.

The school opened in 1989 in an attractive, modern building of bricks and Welsh slates, which has been tastefully added to as the school roll has increased. It has a computer suite, science and technology room, parent’s room, large classrooms, well equipped library and two halls. The school has a nature reserve, a pond and a spacious playground. 

All the classrooms are equipped with interactive smart boards.
