About Woodside Academy

Woodside Academy is an all age special school, (EYFS-Post 16 for pupils with a primary diagnosis of autism). The school is a flourishing and vibrant learning community located in the London Borough of Bexley.  The school’s moto is “All together better” and we are committed to achieving our shared goal of individual and collective excellence for all. Visitors to the school frequently comment on the welcome they receive, the calm and positive ethos as well as how much pupils and staff enjoy being at school.

Woodside Academy joined London South East Academies Trust in April 2019. London South East Academies Trust is a thriving multi-academy trust consisting of mainstream and specialist schools offering special and alternative provision. We aim to provide outstanding education and training for children and young people in every Trust academy, bringing together specialist provision to deliver a real alternative to mainstream education. We are quickly developing a track record of academic success and with ambitious growth plans of the group, there has never been a better time to join this exciting organisation.

 London South East Academies Trust

London South East Academies Trust currently comprises eight schools, providing high quality education for 5-19-year olds across the boroughs of Bromley and Bexley. Our schools, all rated Good by Ofsted, include a mainstream primary alongside special and alternative provision.

Formerly known as Bromley Educational Trust, our expanding multi academy trust was renamed in 2016, reflecting our aim to develop excellent education across the wider region.

The Role

We would like to recruit a class tutor and teacher to teach Maths in the secondary phase, predominantly in key stages 4 and 5. Programmes of study for Maths are based on qualifications for young people working at pre-entry, entry level or level 1 qualifications. Our amazing young people are typically working at lower developmental and cognitive levels.

We offer a comprehensive and bespoke CPD programme throughout the year and have a good record of upskilling staff at all levels. The role is more likely to suit those who are trained/experienced within Early Years, Primary or special settings but secondary trained practitioners with SEN/autism experience are also welcome to apply.

We are particularly keen to hear from you if you have experience of delivering ambitious personalised learning programmes for children with SEND and wish to join a collaborative, creative and committed team.

We are seeking to appoint a class tutor and Maths teacher who is:

·        Passionate about high quality personalised provision for children with autism.

·        An excellent teacher with experience or expertise in working with pupils with complex needs in EYFS/Primary/Special Needs.

·        Will be an excellent role model, especially encouraging positive relationships with everyone they come into contact with.

·        Equipped with strong inter-personnel needs.

·        A resilient practitioner committed to further development.

·        Someone who loves working closely with others to change things for the better.

We offer:

·        Friendly, enthusiastic, delightful pupils and students who teach us something new every day

·        A committed and caring staff team

·        A proactive and supportive SLT and governing body

·        A comprehensive induction and an ongoing extensive CPD programme

·        Opportunities to develop your skills and talents

·        Very small class sizes with high pupil/staff ratio

References will be requested for those shortlisted only and prior to interview. Only those shortlisted for interview will be contacted.

This post is considered to be a customer-facing position; as such it falls within scope of the Code of Practice on English language requirement for public sector workers. The school therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the person specification. These will be applied during the recruitment/selection and probationary stages.

Woodside Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. As such, all posts are subject to a safer recruitment process, including the disclosure of criminal records and vetting checks. We ensure that we have a range of policies and procedures in place which promote safeguarding and safer working practice across the school.

Woodside Academy is committed to equality and diversity in employment practice and service delivery.

 Benefits

The benefits package includes generous annual leave of 24 days (excluding bank holidays). There are excellent pension schemes, including employer contributions (Teachers’ Pension Scheme, Local Government Pension Scheme or Nest). Staff also have access to employee assistance programme, free onsite parking, salary sacrifice cycle to work/ bike loan scheme, lease car scheme and annual season ticket loan.

As the Trust supports a number of children and vulnerable adults, all staff are exempt from Section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Accordingly, all staff will be subject to an ‘Enhanced’ DBS (formerly CRB) check, along with a Children’s Barred List check if in regulated activity. Any offers of appointment may be withdrawn if these checks prove to be unsatisfactory to the Trust. Self-disclosure will be required as part of the recruitment process. If you fail to make a full disclosure or provide sight of your DBS certificate then your offer of employment is likely to be withdrawn. The Trust's DBS policy covers the recruitment of ex-offenders which is available upon request.

This special, over-subscribed academy offers provision for 4–19-year-olds with Autism (ASD) and moderate learning needs.

Our calm, caring, welcoming and purposeful environment ensures that every child is well supported, with learning and therapy tailored to individual needs.

We value trust, honesty and kindness and focus on helping our pupils to become happy and confident.

We prepare our pupils for all stages of development by raising their achievement and helping them to develop strong communication skills. This ensures they can be heard, are informed and can make meaningful choices – which are all key to future success.

We also focus on the development of independence and social communication and interaction with our rich, child-centred curriculum. This is tailored to individual need, ability and wellbeing – encompassing ambitious academic and holistic aspirations as our young people journey towards adulthood.

At the end of Year 11, pupils achieve qualifications in English, Maths, Science and a vocational subject. They may choose either to progress onto local colleges or to remain at Woodside for their sixth form education. Our young people typically access a range of further education courses according to their interests and ability, with staff and external advisors providing support and guidance regarding the progression options on offer to them.
