Oaklands is an outstanding special school serving the London Borough of Hounslow that provides specialist education to students with severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple difficulties and autism. We have a Primary school (New Oaks) and a Secondary school (High Oaks). We are based across two different sites with both our school buildings offering state of the art facilities for our students.

Due to our continued expansion, we are looking to appoint enthusiastic Classroom Assistants to support our teachers and support staff with students that have PMLD, autism, and complex needs. This is an ideal position for someone who is looking to move into an SEN environment. As well as being calm and patient, you will need good team working skills and be passionate about supporting students with special educational needs. The ideal candidate will support the development of learning, independence, communication and behaviour under the guidance of the classroom team.

Applicants must be physically fit and willing to undertake all aspects of the role including assisting with personal care and medical needs of students, such as hoisting, physiotherapy programmes, manual handling and support in eating, drinking and using the toilet.

We believe that all of our students are capable of making outstanding progress and we want to appoint individuals who share this belief. Please refer to the person specification and job description for full details of the role and the essential knowledge and skills required.

We value our employees and offer excellent training and support along with a pension scheme, Employee Assistance Programme and other well-being benefits such as the use of the school Gym at our Gresham Road site. Employees of New Oaks Primary benefit from working within a supportive and friendly team who encourage one another’s professional development.

Oaklands is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and anyone applying to work at the school is expected to share this commitment. This position is subject to a satisfactory fully enhanced DBS check and references being received. Social Media checks will be carried out on shortlisted candidates All positions are subject to the satisfactory completion of a 26 working week probation period.

Details of this post are available on the school’s website: www.oaklands.hounslow.sch.uk. Visits to the school are welcome. Please contact Rany Kalsi, HR manager for an appointment on 0208 560 3569.
