Mayfield Special school caters for children with SLD, PMLD and Primary aged pupils with social, emotional and mental health difficulties. The school is operational on three sites which are 12 miles apart. The Chestnut Centre is managed on a daily basis by the Head of Centre with Mayfield providing strategic leadership, support and monitoring. The successful candidate will be employed to work at the Chestnut site working with pupils who exhibit challenging behaviour and have an EHCP with the primary area of need as SEMH.

We are currently seeking an exceptional individual to join our team. The successful candidate will show passion for making a difference to the lives of children with complex social and emotional difficulties and associated challenging behaviour. 

They will have a caring and child centred approach  with an ability to show  empathy, perseverance, personal resilience, patience and an ability to work flexibly as part of a supportive team.

You will have:

- Evidence of being an outstanding teacher

- Qualified teacher status

- A passion for working with children with Social emotional mental health difficulties (SEMH) and associated challenging behaviour 

- An understanding of Attachment and how this may affect children on a daily basis

- teaching experience (SEN/SEMH) 

- An up to date knowledge of the primary curriculum

- A drive for improving the outcomes of the children in your care. 

An understanding of social, emotional and mental health in children and knowledge of effective strategies to support and promote achievement are essential.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate: high expectations of achievement and behaviour, a vibrant and creative approach to learning, commitment to excellence and outstanding outcomes in both academic and emotional and social development and an ability to develop positive relationships with the most challenging of children.  Knowledge and experience of using the Thrive or PACE approach in supporting children would be a distinct advantage.
