About St John's Church of England Primary School

St. John’s is a school with a Christian foundation and we welcome all children and adults into our community. We want our children, families and staff to know that they are valued, cared for and to be happy. We want our children to be passionate about learning and to equip them with the tools that will enable them to flourish academically, emotionally and spiritually.

1 Corinthians 12 v 12 says, ‘there is one body, but it has many parts. But all its many parts make up one body.’

We are a Voluntary Controlled Church of England School situated in Tunbridge Wells. We have three forms of entry with a total of 630 pupils. We offer a wide range of extra curricular activities to pupils.

Vision and values

St. John’s aims to provide a curriculum that engages, empowers and inspires a love of learning. It seeks to foster independence, confidence and creativity in every child and to instil Christian values to prepare them for later life. The school values are Honesty, Respect, Empathy, Courage, and Inclusivity. We believe that every child is an individual with different needs and that it is our role to ‘Nurture the Potential in everyone’.

The school focuses on literacy, numeracy and ICT. Learning and thinking skills, and personal, emotional and social skills, are built into every lesson.  Sports are also a big part of school life.

Ofsted report

In March 2023 inspectors noted that, ‘the school values of honesty, respect, empathy, courage and inclusivity are woven through the fabric of daily life’. The report highlighted that 'everyone is welcome in this friendly and nurturing school. Staff have high expectations of pupils’ behaviour and achievement,  including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Behaviour throughout the school is calm and settled. Pupils are polite and considerate of each other. They work hard and enjoy their learning, often feeling inspired by their teachers'.
