About Park Grove Primary Academy

Park Grove Primary School is an urban school near the centre of York.  The school was built in 1895 and was reconstructed and reopened in September 1999 following a major fire two years earlier.  The original Victorian exterior remains and provides an inspirational and spacious environment which is accentuated by the modernisation of the interior, including fully equipped and networked classrooms on two levels, an airy wide hall and gymnasium.

The school is on the boundary of three York City Council wards of different character and more than half of the pupils are drawn from outside the school’s catchment area.

The school provides a stimulating, safe and enriching environment which enables the children to achieve their full potential with confidence and enthusiasm.  There are nine classes with more than 250 pupils aged 4-11 years from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.

The school has an active and supportive governing body and a friendly, dedicated staff who provide a caring atmosphere in which children are happy and can learn readily whilst receiving help and advice.  The staff and governors aim to provide a broad, balanced education and encourage and commend effort, good work habits and acquisition of skills.

Our staff members have a positive attitude to change as the school is constantly developing. The last Ofsted inspection in 2008 found the school Good, with Outstanding Features.  Following an interim assessment in March 2012, Ofsted has deferred the next full inspection until the Summer term of 2013.
The school is proud of its ethos whilst recognising that there is room to grow and improve.

The school is closely involved with the local community in a number of ways and uses these links to provide a varied and exciting learning environment.  Participation in events outside school contributes to the variety of educational experiences the children receive.

The school welcomes the attendance of parents at school on an individual basis to discuss their children’s progress and more formally at staff and parent meetings.  Parents play a valuable role in supporting and organising out of school activities.  There is an active and supportive PTA and a recently established Parent Forum provides a means of informing and consulting with parents on school issues.
