Description:

St Joseph's College, Lochinvar requires the services of a cleaner. Maternity Leave Replacement. St Joseph’s College Lochinvar was founded in 1883 by the Sisters of St Joseph and is a Catholic College that embraces the Josephite tradition. Currently catering for Years 7-11, from 2019 the College will move to the final component of the transition to a 7-12 model. St Joseph’s College is situated approximately 10 km west of Maitland and is a 40 minute drive from Newcastle via the Hunter Expressway.

St Joseph’s Lochinvar is a mixed gender, non-selective, Roman Catholic, independent day school. The secondary school in the Hunter Valley Region of New South Wales currently teaches students from Years 7-10 but will also teach Years 11 and 12 from 2018. The school has enrolled about 210 Year 7 students for the past few years and has a waiting list for enrolment in other years.

The school dates back to 1851, when a convent was established on the site. The current school has a particular interest in improving education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Teachers are encouraged to learn about Aboriginal spirituality and include aspects of indigenous culture in their lessons.

Facilities 

The school is in the process of expanding to allow for extra classes for senior students. New classrooms and other facilities have been built over the past seven years as part of the transition. A new school hall can host more than 1,000 students. The school also has sporting fields and encourages all students to take part in team sports.

Curriculum

Students are currently graded at the end of Year 10 based on assessments. The school has a specialist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander curriculum which is developed in consultation with local indigenous elders. A wide range of sports are offered including swimming, cross country running, athletics, soccer, netball, AFL football, basketball, rugby union, rugby league, horse sports, baseball, water polo, cricket, hockey, tennis, golf, triathlon, touch football, volleyball and diving.

St Joseph’s Lochinvar aims to provide a Catholic education in the spirit of its Sisters of St Joseph founders. Describing its approach as “Josephite”, the school says it promotes education for life and offers a mix of academic, pastoral and co-curricular activities for students.
