Job overview

Richard Atkins Primary School is looking for an outstanding Clerical Officer to join our exceptional team in a vibrant and inclusive school that Ofsted described as having “an impressive climate for learning”, where “pupils are keen to share their achievements and are proud of their school”.

Situated in Brixton in the Borough of Lambeth, Richard Atkins is a primary school with a nursery, serving a wonderfully socially, culturally and ethnically diverse community and challenges all children to think that anything is possible. We are very proud of our school and our achievements but we know that we still have work to do to become an outstanding school.

Our staff team is made up of a wide range of experiences and disciplines and everyone is valued. We have high expectations of our pupils and each other want to ensure that we provide the best possible environment and education so that our children can reach their potential in both their academic achievements and their knowledge and experience of life.

We are an outward looking school and have built strong partnerships with parents, local schools and the Local Authority. In particular, we are proud to play a leading role within the Windmill Cluster of Schools with whom we share ideas, resources and expertise in order to facilitate the highest outcomes in attainment and aspirations for our pupils and the wider community.

We are looking for a highly committed, self-motivated individual to join our support staff team, to play a vital role in the delivery of a professional, effective and welcoming administrative service to pupils, parents, colleagues and the wider school community. The successful candidate will work in the school’s busy reception area and be the first point of contact for all school visitors and other stakeholders.

In return we can offer:

  • A friendly and welcoming working environment
  • An exceptional, innovative and experienced staff team
  • A school committed to the enjoyment, achievement and wellbeing of all
  • Professional development opportunities to further your skills
  • Excellent transport links.

About Richard Atkins Primary School

Richard Atkins Primary School is a larger than average two-form entry primary school.  The school is vibrant with a diverse school community.  All pupils, parents, carers, families, teachers, support staff and governors work together to achieve and to fulfil their potential.

The school had its last OfSTED Inspection in March 2012.  OfSTED describes the school as ‘a good school...improving because of strong leadership. Its partnership with parents and carers is a notable strength. Its purpose-built centre, The Clapham Park Centre, is a landmark in the local area and is used extensively by the school and local community groups'.

The school is housed in a Grade II listed building built in 1897.  It is listed for its architectural excellence.  Despite its age the school is in very good condition with light, airy classrooms and space for physical activities.  The front playground consists of asphalted areas bordered by a range of shrubs, and pupils have access to a wide range of play equipment during break times including a climbing frame and a wooden pirate ship.  The rear playground includes a caged area for ball games, and climbing apparatus attached to the wall. There is also a small walled play area with a pond, a podium and seated areas.  There are seated areas in all play areas.

The school has developed the purpose built centre, ‘Clapham Park Centre’ designed to enhance the extended school activities for pupils, parents and members of the community.  The building was opened in September 2010 and houses a large hall, a large meeting room with sink and refrigerator, a music/dance rehearsal room, three teaching rooms, a kitchen, two health and well being rooms, an ICT suite and gallery space.
