We have an exciting opportunity for a candidate with strong administrative experience, ideally with previous clerking experience, to join Chellaston Junior School which is part of PEAK Multi Academy Trust.

Chellaston Junior School, a successful school within the Trust, that prides itself of its commitment to providing all pupils with a high-quality education, are currently looking for a Clerk to Governors. It is seeking individuals that are committed to improving education and making a positive difference to the lives of its pupils.  The Clerk to Governors is responsible for planning and organising meetings, producing and distributing agendas and minutes in a timely manner, and managing membership within the Local Governing Board in line with the constitution. The candidate will play a critical role in supporting the school and Headteacher to operate effectively in line with the responsibilities defined by the Trustees.

Peak Multi Academy Trust is a small Multi Academy Trust currently in the early stages of its formation, having come together initially in April 2019.  The Trust consists of four schools:  Chellaston Infant School, Chellaston Junior School, Homefields Primary School and Chellaston Academy.

We are very excited about the journey that we are embarking upon as a family of schools within the Trust as we continue the work that we do to positively impact on the young people within our schools.  Together we hope to build stronger opportunities, broader experiences and greater life chances for the children within our community.

The Trust is committed to providing the very best educational opportunities for children and young people and has established four simple principles that define our ethos and underpin the work that we do:

People - “Sometimes the most ordinary things could be made extraordinary, simply by doing them with the right people.”  Elizabeth Green

Enjoyment - “What we learn with pleasure we never forget.” Alfred Mercier

Achievement - “High achievement always takes place in the framework of high expectation.” Charles Kettering

Knowledge - “Seeking knowledge creates courage.” George Bernard Shaw

The Trust vision, detailed below, brings clarity to our purpose and focus:

“Life is a journey and nobody’s path is certain in this rapidly changing world.  Together we are stronger.  We will guide and inspire you along the way.  When you let go of our hand, you and I will know that you will choose the path that is best for you.”

Hours of the Role:

The role will involve attending up to six meetings per year and occasional contributions to work outside of those meetings. Most meetings are held in the evening at Chellaston Junior School.

Estimated hours per meeting:

• Preparation and circulation of agenda and papers – 1 hour

• Clerking meeting – 2 hours

• Finalising minutes and circulation – 3 hours.

Chellaston Junior School first opened in 1967. It has been extended a number of times over the years to the large school you see today. The capacity of the school is 512 pupils with 128 children in each year group.

The main school building comprises of 16 classrooms, library, multi-purpose hall and a variety of ancillary spaces. We run our own kitchen which provides meals for pupils and staff at Chellaston Infant and Junior Schools. The Hub is also part of CJS. There are two teaching spaces and other rooms used for meetings and visitors; the Zone (after-school and holiday club) also meet here.

On 1 June 2021, CJS became part of the East Midlands Education Trust (EMET). Along with friends and colleagues at Homefields Primary School and Chellaston Infant School.  The East Midlands Education Trust was formed in September 2014 with a mission to raise the educational standards and improve the life chances of students within the partnership. There are currently a number of schools in our Trust representing the full age range of 3-19 along with an alternative education provider.

Acting Head Teacher: Mrs Karen Price

Chair of Governors: Mr Simon Fisher

Curriculum Intent: At Chellaston Junior School, we ask, “Why?”. Our curriculum is based upon developing enquiring minds.

Through our curriculum, we teach our pupils core knowledge, which then equips them with the ability to showcase their reasoning skills. We want our children to ask ‘why?’ and develop their independence and resilience to answer their own questions for themselves.
