Job overview

We are looking for an extremely organised, effective and flexible Clerk to the Governors to join our School reporting to the Chair of Governors.  The successful candidate will also provide admin support for the Chair of Governors.


We are seeking someone who has a strong attention to detail, is able to take accurate minutes, prepare agendas in consultation with the Headmistress and Chair of Governors and collate and distribute papers for meetings in a timely manner. Other responsibilities will be providing advice and information to the governing body.


The successful candidate will understand the importance of strong Governance and that the Clerk plays a pivotal role.  Previous secretarial, office or administrative experience is essential and school experience would be an advantage.  A positive attitude and calm manner with the ability to prioritise and deal with a demanding workload is vital.  


Excellent communication skills, a professional approach and the ability to deal with complex matters both face to face and in writing is essential along with strong MS office skills, i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook. 


The hours for this post are 6 hours/week and irregular due to the duties and nature of the post.  Therefore, the post holder must be flexible in their approach to the post and able to attend evening and/or daytime meetings at the school.  Be able to attend ad hoc panel meetings.  Regularly carry out administrative duties on their own initiative and meet deadlines set by law and governing body.

Upton House School is a independent co-educational preparatory school in Windsor, Berkshire. The school was first opened in 1936, and is located on a one acre site in the centre of Windsor. In 2008 the two-storey facility Little Upton was opened, containing pre-nursery and nursery rooms with access to an outdoor play area. There are approximately 295 students on the school roll. Upton House is denominationally Christian, and is a registered charity.
