Clinical Psychologist

WKS is a non-maintained special school for pupils with complex education needs, many with communication problems. There are approximately 90 co-educational day and residential

pupils on roll aged 5-19. The school has achieved its most recent outstanding report from OFSTED in 2016 along with its re-recognition through NAS Autism Accreditation.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist to join a dedicated multidisciplinary team working with young people with complex special needs and mental health issues. Over 80% of the pupils have a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Condition plus other co-morbid diagnosis, so it is important that the successful candidate has experience with this client group. The majority of pupils are verbal and there is a wide range of cognitive and functional ability.

The role includes offering a range of assessments, including cognitive, behavioural and mental capacity in order to be able to support and advise parents/carers and school staff and to manage a caseload.

This is an established post and requires someone to use initiative to further the role across the day and residential settings.

We seek someone who can generate enthusiasm and develop the potential of pupils who may have experienced frustration and trauma during the early years of their lives and education. In return, we offer excellent support from colleagues and staff; commitment to clinical supervision and CPD, access to internal and external training and opportunities for multidisciplinary and multiagency working.

You must be HCPC registered, have your own professional insurance and be prepared to arrange your own clinical supervision. The school is committed to sharing good practice and so you would be expected to provide internal and external training. It would also be expected that you would arrange and support trainee psychologists on placement.
