Job overview

The successful applicant will be a key member of the Careers and Higher Education team, working closely with the Head of Year 13 and Head of College Counselling and alongside two other experienced counsellors. They will be a member of a large and experienced IB team who works closely together under the overall direction of our IB Coordinator and Deputy Head in charge of KS5. The ability to contribute to our social and emotional counselling services would be an advantage.


Our graduating IB class accommodates around 60 students. The majority of our graduates attend university in the UK or the USA with others studying in Canada, Europe, Asia and Oceania.

You will need to demonstrate that you are dedicated to a culture of excellence and that you are able to:


  • Manage our university and college application processes with a high level of technical knowledge and with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Contribute to ensuring that our College Counselling team keep updated on developments in college and university application processes worldwide.
  • Develop our extensive network of contacts with universities and colleges, arranging for visits and fairs, facilitating scholarships and advocating for our students.
  • Work with individual families to ensure careers and college applications are conducted in a spirit of openness and partnership.
  • Communicate confidently and expertly with families during forums, assemblies and parent workshops that relate to careers and college counselling.
  • Build institutional capacity by sharing good practice and developing colleagues, both within and beyond the Counselling and IB team.
  • Conduct career interviews with students and work with them informally to identify their strengths and weaknesses and enable them to realise their career and college goals.
  • Lead the design and delivery of the careers and higher education elements of our Personal, Social, Health, Economic Education (PSHEE) curriculum from Year 9 upwards, including work experience and internships.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to a holistic education that develops skills, concepts and understandings to prepare our students for the demands of the 21st century.



BSM offers a generous salary to newly appointed teaching staff with a starting salary upwards of GBP50k pa, inclusive of superannuation, on an incremental salary scale with annual increases.

About The British School Manila

The British School Manila (BSM) is a co-educational, private, not-for-profit British international school.

Founded in 1976, the school has grown from 2 classrooms and 32 students in its first year to the present day where BSM welcomes 950+ students aged 3-18, representing 50+ nationalities.

Our School

Our school is a fully accredited member of the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), a founding member of the Federation of British International Schools in Asia (FOBISIA) and a member of the East Asian Regional Council of Schools.

Our teaching staff come from a range of backgrounds with experience of the British and other highly regarded curricula. We offer classes from Nursery to Year 13 with three classes per year group.

The majority of BSM graduates attend College in the U.S. and  U.K., but our college placement data shows our students attend colleges all over the world.

The school year is divided into 3 terms: Term 1 from August to December, Term 2 from January to March, and Term 3 from April to June.

Our Curriculum

BSM teaches an adapted form of the National Curriculum of England in EYFS and Years 1-9. This is followed in Years 10 & 11 with a comprehensive range of Edexcel and Cambridge (I)GCSE courses. In Year 12 and 13 students experience the internationally renowned and recognised IB Diploma programme, which helps students develop their breadth and depth of knowledge ready for further education.

We are also proud of our wider curriculum. We offer more than 180 After School Activities (ASA), a rich and diverse programme that caters for all student interests and develops their sporting, creative, academic and artistic talents. Our service learning programme is designed to prompt both action and reflection and ensure our students develop the capacity for empathy and a sense of responsibility for others.  Our residential trips provide our students with opportunities to step out of their comfort zone, to appreciate cultural differences and to celebrate diversity.
