We are Cambridge University Press & Assessment, a world-leading publisher and assessment organisation and a proud part of the University of Cambridge.

Are you excited about working in education at a time when it is more important, and faces more challenges, than ever? Do you have a strong desire to understand the needs of teachers and students in UK and International schools and to use that knowledge to develop and deliver innovative market-leading resources and services that support and help these customers at a time of unprecedented change and demand?

We are looking for an experienced, committed and versatile Commissioning Editor to join the Publishing Team working on our UK & International Education lists, as we look to expand on our core strengths and create new opportunities.

About the role

The Commissioning Editor role is a challenging and varied one that is central to the successful operation of our publishing programme. Working across the Mathematics portfolios, you will lead and implement commissioning strategies that deliver innovative, market-leading print and digital resources and teacher support services that have the potential to engage and inspire teachers and students when they most need it.

Key features of the role will include:

  • Undertaking market research to identify and deliver a pipeline of profitable, competitive and customer-driven print and digital product that aligns to international curricula.
  • Preparing and interpreting financial analysis of portfolio performance to inform key publishing decisions.
  • Identifying and building strong relationships with new and existing authors and contributors and growing this community over time.
  • Developing, and presenting detailed and successful proposals and business cases which deliver on the Publishing Plan.
  • Coordinating and attending meetings with internal teams, authors and other external stakeholders.
  • Maintaining a strong in-market presence through school and conference visits.
  • Collaborating closely with Product Delivery teams across all aspects of the publishing process to ensure timely publication of high-quality customer focussed products and services.
  • Working closely with Sales and Marketing teams to support the disseminating of key and timely information to secure products' reach to market.

About you

You will have previous proven commissioning experience across print and digital resources, including working with authors, designing and implementing research plans and developing and presenting persuasive business cases. You will have previous mathematics publishing, teaching or research experience, and will also be able to demonstrate a solid understanding of the global education market and landscape.

The customer is at the heart of everything we do and you should be able to provide effective support to all, whether external or internal. You will regularly demonstrate our behavioural values, acting in ways that are collaborative, decisive, empowering, innovative, responsible and responsive. With a flexible mindset you will not be afraid to question and seek better solutions, taking a problem-solving approach to tasks. You will be a strong communicator, have a calm and adaptable approach to your work and be able to respond positively to change.

Rewards and benefits

We will support you to be at your best in work and to live well outside of it. In addition to competitive salaries, we offer a world-class, flexible rewards package, featuring family-friendly and planet-friendly benefits including:

  • Group personal pension scheme
  • Discretionary annual bonus
  • Life assurance up to 4 x annual salary

  • 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays

We also offer flexible and hybrid working options from day one. We will consider any work arrangements if you wish to work flexibly or require adjustments due to a disability.
