John Smeaton Academy is part of United Learning, a large and growing group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England. Schools within United Learning work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our intranet site, United Hub, is just one example of how we share resource and communicate across sites, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance. We reward our staff: with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately the satisfaction of supporting schools in their quest to give every child the opportunity to succeed and reach their full potential.

An opportunity has arisen in school to appoint a Complex Needs Assistant who would work alongside some of our pupils with complex communication and social needs including autism. The school is committed to inclusion and children access both our Resourced Provision and mainstream school.

John Smeaton Academy is looking for an exceptional candidate who can demonstrate enthusiasm, initiative and have effective communication skills. Applicants must have the passion and commitment to inspire students in this area.

John Smeaton Academy is a comprehensive school serving the east of Leeds with excellent educational facilities recently built under the Government’s ‘Building School’s for the Future’ initiative. In addition to the main school building, with state of the art ICT facilities throughout, children also have access to the recently rebuilt community sports centre.

Our staff have all chosen to work at John Smeaton Academy because we all share the same dream – we want to make a difference to the life chances of young people in an increasingly competitive world.

Our parents and students tell us we listen to them and actively seek their opinions on a wide range of issues. Our students believe that learning is relevant to them, they enjoy their learning, and are increasingly ambitious and aspirational. Parents and carers believe we are providing their children with an enjoyable learning experience in a safe and secure learning environment.

It is our continued aim to make John Smeaton Academy the school of first choice for our local community. To this end we are committed to working closely with our feeder primary schools and the wider community.
