Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding candidate as a part-time Compliance Officer to be responsible for overseeing all elements of compliance at The Beacon School.  This is an exciting  opportunity for a professional with a compliance, legal, audit or regulatory background seeking to broaden and deepen their experience within the education sector.  The post calls for engagement at a senior level with school leadership and governors, as well as working with the staff body to ensure the School’s day-to-day compliance and health and safety needs are managed effectively. In addition, there would be the chance to get involved in ad hoc legal issues and manage compliance projects.

The Beacon is a large independent day school for boys aged 3-13 , with outstanding academic results and a vibrant co-curriculum. The school occupies an 18 acre site in leafy Chesham Bois near Amersham and is accessible by Chiltern Railways and Met Line.

The Role and Job Description 

Role: Compliance Officer

Reporting to: Director of Finance and Operations (DFO)

Hours of Work: Part-time 3 days per week term time, and the opportunity for flexibility in school holidays

Other Terms & conditions: Six weeks paid holiday entitlement, competitive salary, pension and other benefits

Purpose and Scope  

  • To act as a focal point for compliance ensuring that the School’s policies and procedures are fully compliant with the relevant laws, regulations and best practice; undertaking audits against all external regulation and internal policies;  ensuring the policy renew cycle and approval process is managed effectively and actively contributing to the management and successful outcomes of external inspections. 
  • To ensure the health & safety framework is in place for looking after our pupils, staff, and visitors to our school; assisting the DFO in setting the direction for effective health and safety management; developing and maintaining management systems and practices that ensure risks are dealt with sensibly, responsibly and proportionately; monitoring and reporting and reviewing of the School’s health and safety performance

The above is a guide to the overall nature of the compliance work - you may be required to undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required by the team reporting to the DFO from time to time to enable the smooth running of the department and School.

Safeguarding

Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for who you are responsible and with whom you come into contact; following the School’s safeguarding policy at all times and using the internal systems/contacting the DSL for monitoring safeguarding, wellbeing and pastoral issues.

Note:  

  • The role may bring you into contact with children and as such a level of responsibility for children. The role constitutes regulated activity with children.   
  • In the role, you may also be required to undertake such other duties as the Head reasonably requires from time to time.
