Job overview
Are you a Life Changer? Do you want to lean in and transform the life of a child?
Compass Community puts children first through our therapeutic, innovative approach. Integrity, Courage and Care shape how we work. We listen deeply, challenge each other and fixing what needs fixing, together.
This is the work. And we’d like you to be part of it.
Cledford Park is in Middlewich, which is in the beautiful county of Cheshire. Our building is a perfect place to learn and is a calm oasis which motivates and inspires pupils to learn. Cledford Park has 24 school places and is open to children from Years 3 to 12. Here at Cledford Park we offer a lifeline to children who suffer from social, emotional and mental health difficulties that prevent them from accessing both an education and social mobility. We overcome these barriers through a whole school approach to emotional well-being and mental health.
Cledford Park’s purpose is to reconnect pupils who have become detached from their education, and in some cases purpose in life. We aim to re-engage pupils and to give them a vision of both their education and their place in the wider community.
Our children come from a wide range of backgrounds, but all have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH). Many will also have other Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) such as Autism, ADHD, and communication difficulties.
The work we do is both varied and challenging, and as a trauma and attachment-informed organisation, all staff are provided with extensive therapeutic training and support.
Our closely triangulated approach places the child at the centre of decision making, ensuring that education and therapy professionals, parents/carers, local authority teams, and, most importantly, our students can work together to secure outstanding outcomes for all.
The Role
We are all primarily teachers of children before teachers of subjects. Central to this role is knowing the child, building professional, nurturing and positive relationships and motivating students.
We are looking for a Science specialist. Our Science curricula span Entry Level, Functional Skills, Key Stage 3 and GCSE. You will be supported by national subject champions who can support the work of non-subject specialists to be experts in how best to facilitate learning for the children they know best.
Compass Community School teachers inspire children, creating a sense of awe and wonder and making subjects and lessons real and relevant to them. They plan exciting and engaging learning opportunities which challenge and push students, whether they are working on the very basics or they are have a special talent or passion for the subject.
Our children require very special teachers who are able to manage some complex and challenging behaviours. They will know that our children require lots of attention, the right sort of communication, consistency and flexibility in equal measure, and a non-judgemental approach.
We want our teachers to be part of the decision-making that drives our school, provides outcomes for children and advocates for every child. We welcome their input in developing both the academic curriculum and the opportunities in our extra-curricular offer – bringing their own interests and passions to the table.

At Compass Community School Cheshire our children are at the very heart of every decision we make. We strive to deliver a holistic education experience which helps children develop personal qualities, which are valued in British society such as thoughtfulness, honesty, respect for difference, moral principles, independence, and self-respect.
We aim to develop young people who are responsible, caring and respectful of others, and who have a strong sense of fairness and what is ‘right’. We want them to treat others as they would like to be treated themselves and to understand and celebrate diversity and difference.
The school will help our children and young people to develop an inner discipline and will encourage pupils to not just ‘follow the crowd’ – they will make up their own minds and be ready to accept responsibility for what they do. They will grow through making choices and holding to the choices that they have made. They will want to be honest with themselves and with others.
