Job overview
Holy Mary British Catholic School started as a Nursery School in Madrid through the vision of its founders, Marta and María Riva de Aldama. It was opened to cater for parents who wished their children to have a British style education based on Catholic values. It expanded due to great demand from parents and continued to grow and provide education as a Primary School. Further pressure from parents resulted in the opening of the Secondary School in 2013. Currently, we are the only British Catholic School towards the centre of Madrid with 640 students enrolled. We are committed members of NABSS, CISC and ACADE.
Holy Mary British Catholic School will continue its controlled expansion within the secondary section over the next 4 years. About Holy Mary Catholic School - Junior/Senior Department
Holy Mary is a family-owned Catholic British school in Barrio de Salamanca, in the heart of Madrid. Founded in 2009 by two sisters who believed that education should feel like family, we educate 640 students from Early Years to A-Levels across three campuses.
We are not part of a corporate group. There are no shareholders, no private equity investors, no board meetings in London. Our founders still walk the corridors every morning. Our Headteacher knows every teacher by name.
We teach the full British curriculum with small class sizes, a genuine sense of community, and Catholic values that shape how we treat people - not just what we teach.
If you are a QTS-qualified teacher considering a move abroad, here is what you should know about Holy Mary:
- You will not be a number on a spreadsheet. There are 640 students. You matter here.
- Small class sizes that let you actually teach
- A Headteacher who teaches and a leadership team you can talk to directly
- Funded CPD: conference attendance, training, professional growth
- Life in Madrid: sunshine, culture, and a cost of living that gives you your life back
Our teachers come from the UK, Ireland, and beyond. Most choose to stay. We understand why.
Campuses: Infant & Lower Primary (C/ Alfonso Rodriguez Santamaria 23-25), Upper Primary (C/ Cinca 20-22-24), Secondary (C/ Arga 17-19). All in Barrio de Salamanca, Madrid 28002.
